Embiid to Toronto, Zion to Philadelphia

Post#1 » by ProcessDoctor » Mon May 19, 2025 8:31 pm

NOP out: Zion, Olynyk
NOP in: #9, Poeltl, R.J., Dick

Why? Lots of smoke that Zion's time in NOP has come to an end/new leadership wants to make a big change. NOP cuts ties and gets a top-10 pick out of it.

PHI out: Embiid, Oubre
PHI in: Zion, Olynyk

Why? Moves on from Embiid, tries to put together a younger, flawed player with upside next to Maxey/McCain/#3.

TOR out: #9, Poeltl, R.J., Dick
TOR in: Embiid, Oubre

Why? Masai has a history of buying low on players (Kawhi, Ingram) and seems to be making win-now moves. Doesn't see anyone he particularly loves at #9, so parts with it for a chance that Embiid can still play at a high level. Doesn't take Zion for himself due to fit with Ingram/Scottie.

If I'm the NOP, I'm jumping headfirst into the pool for this, water or no water.

Phil just puts there eggs in a different rickety basket

TOR gives up quite a bit of depth for maybe 50 games of Embiid, which sinks the other 32 games

People can't accept the fact that Embiid is cooked. This would be horrid for TOR.

This is a ludicrous valuation of embiid. Im not sure a team would give clean expirings for him, let alone a lotto pick and an above average starting C

If Embiid seemed right(as right as he can be) physically you can't get him for so little. If you can get him for so little, its only because he's broken. So Toronto can't ever make this deal.

I have no faith in him or Zion being stable enough to build anything meaningful around. The package Toronto sends here I would prefer for any team.

Would be a similar problem to New Orleans for Zion. Philly has too good of a food scene

What if Toronto was cut out of the deal?

Yeah, I don't see Toronto going for this. Philly is just swapping 1 gamble for another younger gamble, and NO is at least cashing in 70 cents to the dollar on what looks less and less like a winning ticket every day. Toronto is giving up the most stable asset for the highest risk asset.

Then I'm keeping Zion whose contract isn't guaranteed. Philly is also the only team who can avail themselves of the medical retirement exception. The risk for the receiving team is too great.

Say emotions were removed from it. Who do you think has more value right now? Genuinely asking.

Well, Embiid has more actual runs on the board, so to speak, because he's been around longer. But NO will most likely look at Embiid being 31, Zion being 25 and rationalize their way to "Zion's best is still to come, Embiid's has already come and gone. Not saying they would be right or wrong with that line of reasoning, but if that WASN'T in their mind, they should've cut bait on Zion already. Now that's probably a large factor in why Griffin was replaced, but also if he had done that earlier, he probably loses his job earlier. Now Dumars has come in with NO connection to Zion, he can rightfully take the position: "Not my circus, not my monkeys!" and move on without hypocrisy or regret...
