Trade him. Agbaji, IQ, Dick, and Yak + picks for Jokic and Zeke?

Not if we are keeping the starting lineup intact
This. He’s not better than anybody in the starting 5 so he’s out. Somebody desperate will pay him more to be their starter.
Better is subjective IMO. Like RJ is "better" but I'd rather have Ochai in the lineup if his shooting holds, we need proper defensive players and shooting outlets, Ochai is just a better fit I think, not to mention he'll be way cheaper.

Props TZ!

His market is already set, just look at what Okoro got.

Re: Ochai Agbaji Decision
With his cost controlled future contract he might be worth more than RJ Barrett or Gradey Dick (not good defensively). Get as best of a 1st pick and draft Carter Bryant, Rasheer Fleming, or a C outside the lottery.

So what? We’re gonna roll vet mins and rookie players for the rest of time?
We can afford to give Ochai an MLE level deal. Just last year we had Kelly and Boucher on those types of deals

Can they? Sure.
Should they? No.
Will they? 50/50
Front office has seldom shown any appetite to play hardball on contracts. He's shown the ability to be a rotation player in the NBA, but I haven't seen enough defensive versatility/effectiveness at this point to qualify for full-MLE salary. That won't kill the team's cap either, but it would be an over-pay.

Should they is a no?
So what exactly is our teams plan? Draft rookies and then let them go after their 3rd/4th year?
How exactly are we going to build up anything when we constantly are chasing the allure of "potential" and get rid of the actually productive players?

Who said anything about letting him go? They have his rights for 2 more years.
They should keep him, but only at the right price - and I don't believe that's the full MLE, especially not now when they have leverage.

Re: Ochai Agbaji Decision
Just play out the season and see what happens. Unless he has an absolutely bonkers season, I can't see someone offering him a big contract as a RFA given the current cap environment.

Re: Ochai Agbaji Decision
He looked good last year. Monitor him for a few months to make sure last year wasn't an anomaly. Extend him if we can get a good deal, otherwise wait until he hits RFA.

Uhhh the thread in which you replied to?
And also, we have him signed this year. He is a free agent after this year.

I'm specifically replying to you
YogurtProducer wrote:We can afford to give Ochai an MLE level deal
Yes, they can afford it. No, they shouldn't give him the full MLE. That doesn't mean let him go for no reason.
YogurtProducer wrote:And also, we have him signed this year. He is a free agent after this year.
A restricted free agent, as in they still have his rights. If someone wants to set the market at the MLE for him at that point, then let them do it and match if you want, but why should they pay more on their own accord?

I don't know if you could construct a offer like this, but
I'd offer -
$7M, $6.5M, $6M and a team option for $10M.

it's entirely dependent on what his trade value actually is. I would deal him for another pick in the 10-20 range in this draft.

He's gonna be making $6.3 mil this year, no way he's signing a contract that will be paying him less in 2029 than he's making in 2025.
I think Ochai's being a bit overvalued in this thread, but I think an extension talks start at ~$10mil

Re: Ochai Agbaji Decision
Teams are tight with capspace these days so unless he takes a bargain of an extension, match him during RFA.
Trading him for a late first is beyond dumb. You literally hope that pick can turn into an Ochai.

Yah Okoro's a great comp. Aaron Neismith on the Pacers got that contract too, so I think that's right around the market for a guy of Ochai's archetype. Can't see it getting anywhere close to 4/60

Cap will have gone up 20% from when they were FA though so AAV should be 13-14 now if they are the comp

Cap is up, but the Apron seems like its putting downward pressure on all non-superstar salaries. Gonna be interesting to see what guys like Ziaire Williams & Quentin Grimes get on their rookie extensions this year
