Is Jalen Brunson's contract the best in the league?

Post#1 » by LethalRangee » Tue May 20, 2025 2:50 pm

Overview of his contract:

24-25: $25,011,498
25-26: $34,944,001
26-27: $37,739,521
28-29: $40,535,041
29-30 (Player Option): $43,330,561

We all know he took a discount under the assumption he gets to play with his Villanova teammates, is his contract the best in the league? It keeps the Knicks below the 2nd apron and helps them sign talent to fill their bench. Something Carmelo and many other stars would never do. Interested to know if there's a better non-rookie scale contract out there.

Yes…but it’s an underpay so Josh & Mikal could get overpaid a little, so you kinda have to consider all 3 deals together.

Brunson: So what are you paid to do?

5.4 pts, 4.4 rb in 15 minutes off the bench this year for ORL, is there something I’m missing? He looks like one of the worse contracts in the league.

I'm gonna say Wemby since you didn't exclude rookie contracts.

Other than rookie contracts it's still Reaves.
G - James | Rondo
G - Bradley | Caruso
F - Green | Caldwell-Pope
F - Davis | Kuzma | Morris
C - McGee | Howard

I don't think so...Shai has similar contract for next 2 seasons...so I'd probably go with Shai
24-25: $35M
25-26: $38M
26-27: $40M

His last year of his old contract was inflated purposely (he only counts 15M towards the cap) and most of his remaining contract is un-guaranteed. He also has a clause in his contract that protects the Magic (or any team that trades for him) from another injury to his surgically repaired knee.

This is not defending his horrible play, just the statement that he’s one of the worst contracts in the league.

100% Austin Reaves. He's getting paid 12.9m this season and 13.9m next before a player option that he is all but guaranteed to opt out of in 27.

~20/6/5 on 61.6%TS this year.

Honestly it’s really up there. I think star contracts should be around what Brunson is getting all these new max contracts/supermax contracts are ruining teams to be able to create decent rosters. You pay 2 guys max/supermax contracts they take up almost 70 percent of the salary cap. How is it possible to create teams like this paying these players all this money.

I personally think it's Herb Jones. That contract is clean as a mofo. If I was a contender, I would be trading draft picks for him. He almost assuredly will go to UFA in two seasons (since his extension # would be so low), so the Pelicans are going to lose him for nothing.

Well I don’t watch the Magic, but Mitchell Robinson has a similar contract and similar stats, though he’s our defensive specialist. He’s also been out for most of this year and is quite injury prone, but our team doesn’t feel like his contract is out of place or overburdening, is Isaac’s situation different?

No, the best contract in the league by default is Wembanyama

I would take Brunson on this contract rather than Reaves. Which one is a number one option leading the team to the conference finals.

How'd your boy Luka do in the second round this year?
