As long as he can make pocket passes, lob passes and drop offs to bigs we don’t need a ball dominant passing guard. He can do those things.

I like Clayton but in a lot of ways he’s an older Dilly. Neither is a true PG. Neither can guard anything but PGs. I’m actually okay with drafting a PG, but I’d rather it be more of a true PG and hopefully someone bigger that can play minutes with Dilly.

I think Clayton and Dilly are both modern PG's. Both can score, but still look to make plays for others as well. They aren't an old school PG like a Rondo who looks to pass 1st, 2nd, 3rd, but they can still make plays for their teammates.

I'd be all for grabbing Clayton at 31 if he's available. Big shot maker, great shooter, and he made nice strides as a playmaker this season.

Just saw Tahaad Pettiford play he's pretty solid. I know this is the Detroit pick thread but we should grab him with No 31

I think he's too small, we already saw how Finch didn't want to play Rob. Pettiford measured 6'0 and a 6'5 wingspan, very similar to Rob. I don't think he's as athletic as Rob, or as good of a shooter either.

Has a better handle. Seems like a better defender too

Based on this video I see that he will be able to score well in the NBA when he's 1 on 1 against a defender a foot shorter than himself.

Oh yeah, drafting CondoM would also help Ant in the off-court coverage

I don’t know how to embed shorts here, but a Walter Clayton Jr workout, get to see him shoot over Maluach multiple times.

Since nominating myself would be in poor taste, instead, I would like to nominate you for Chairman of the "Draft Walter Clayton Jr at 17" campaign.

(Assuming he is still available, of course.)

Yaxel is a steal at 17. If he were 19 and not 22 he would be a top 5 pick.

Ant never pass the ball so he won't use him much. Maybe just a few emergency outlets

Right now my picksL

17
1. Yaxel Lendeborg
2. Egor Demin
3. Rasheer Fleming
4. Trade down for Walter Clayton or Danny Wolf.

I'm kind of torn on Demin.
In highlights/workouts he shows a smooth jumper with a quick release and great passing ability.
Then you look at his stats and they are awful.
But IMHO he's the only PG in this draft with the potential to be an All-Star one day.

Lendeborg and Fleming both have the unique combo of outstanding length and decent shooting ability.
And since I expect one or both of Randle/Naz to walk PF and us having zero additional depth there,
PF is a high priority IMHO.
These guys are both long enough to rotationally share a frontcourt with Naz or Randle too.

Off my board with our 1st rounder:
Sorber, McNeeley, Essengue, Bryant, Traore, Saraf, Beringer
Sorber is slightly undersized, hurt, and slow footed. The rest of those guys just plain suck.

31.
1. Clayton or Wolf if they fall
2. Ryan Kalkbrenner
3. Maxime Reynaud
4. Zikarsky/Yang (and possible tradedown)

Kalkbrenner and Reynaud are probably plug and play backup options for Rudy, with Kalkbrenner having much better defensive potential.
Zikarsky and Yang are much longer term projects at least 2-3 years away.

I think Wolf will be limited to a bench role.
Clayton, I don't love his shot mechanics, his size, or his defensive potential.
He does have sneaky quickness and a bit more bounce than one would think though.
Not in love with his playmaking either, but he will probably play in the league for a long time as a bench scorer.

You could be right, but all the mocks I see have him going later. Since you like him I'll give him more consideration. 19 vs 22 is an important factor.

Pretty funny dude. Damn I wish Ant didn't go out there and father at least 4 children by 4 different women. At age 23 he should be considering becoming a father sometime in the next 5 to 10 years.

The draft is a long ways away. I'll get around to watching some. In the meantime I like to hear what my fellow posters here have to say about it. Do you have an opinion? Which one has better handles?

Edit: OK I looked up some of the most recent highlights for Tahaad Petitford. Nice handle and similar to Dilly, but definitely not better and I would say not quite as good.
