Brad has been elite but with the changing of salary cap this was inevitable

I think Brad did a so-so job this year. I don't understand why the team increased 3PTA by 14% over the formula that worked last year. At a certain point, when a franchise has never in 45 years attempted 60 3PTA in a single game, ever. And then we do it 6 times in one season, plus those preseason games in AbuDhabi as well, then you have to assume Brad is in agreement with this unprecedented approach. So he gets dinged for that.
And then, outside of the 2023 draft manuevers, when we traded down 13 spots and pocketed 4 future 2nd round picks, Brad's moves have really lacked creativity. And in some ways have prioritized 3pt shooting over winning basketball. And Brad has heavily deemphasized youth, the draft and athleticism. It's almost like we have one type of player we like and we don't even consider different archetypes. And maybe this is more a Joe Mazzulla problem than a Brad Stevens problem, who knows. But... neverthless, I'm just glad Alex Karaban went back to UConn, lol.
When we had an open roster spot after moving Jaden Springer (the Springer round trip cost us 2 picks for no production) Brad signed Torrey Craig over bringing back Oshae Brissett. Brissett played an energy cutting role to a +12/per 100 result in our 2024 title run and we could've used him this year after JT went down, imo. And it's obvious Craig's differentiating skill over Brissett simply came down to shooting 3pointers, so that move hurt us.
And now we have big decisions on how to balance the teams finances and also decisions on Al Horford, Luke Kornet and Coach Mazzulla who are all up for contract extensions. This is the first offseason I'm really doubting if Brad is gonna make the right decisions.
I'm less concerned about Brad's ability to navigate this offseason than I am his ability to recognize we should pull the plug on Joe.
But it's fair comment that we are not athletic off the bench, not a nasty or physical team, and we've blown two playoff series in three years we absolutely should have won. That's on his resume as much as it is Joe's or the players. The honeymoon is over.

Re: President Brad Stevens - Executive of the Year
Back in 2023 we got the new CBA with the repeater tax, 2nd apron and so forth. We lost to Miami
And then after digesting the new CBA, the front office extended Jaylen, Porzingis, Pritchard, Jrue, Tatum, Derrick and Sam
To go way over the apron into most projected tax to be paid by any team ever
and now it's like, "yikes, we're screwed," and like maybe Brad/Zarren and the front office has the whole situation under control -- I hope so
because it's like they knew the penalties and still paid everyone and it's like... what are we doing, lol
and again, maybe they have this under control, they got it all worked out
but it feels like when I would make a sandwich but have to leave the kitchen to grab a call
and I'd come back in and the dog jumped up and ate all the ham and cheese off the kitchen counter
and the pup is just looking at me like, "sorry i couldn't help myself"
and that's like how it feels to me with us spending all this money, lol

Re: President Brad Stevens - Executive of the Year
Whatever this front office did or did not do, it was ALL WORTH IT. We got a title out of it. Something this franchise hasn't done since some of us were still growing pubes. And if we're expecting a dynasty, that's on us. It was really that hard to repeat what the Warriors did in today's NBA. No one foresaw Tatum rupturing his Achilles, which is what's making all this seem bad.
As for our current situation, I don't think we're in deep **** relative to other teams that spent (and didn't even win). You have to pay to play. And I'm grateful our owners and FO did.

Nah Real GM Posters are better equipped to give you insight on players and cap adjustments than Zarren and Stevens.

Look for fireworks.
I say this because Brad said no. He pretty much said, don’t look for us to be moving up far enough to pick Cooper or near there. I don’t believe him.

I think he bought us a 3 year contender window before having to deal with things in summer 26. And, KP will have expired, Jrue only 2 years remaining and we possibly are coming off a 3 peat.
It looks much worse now with the JT injury, but we absolutely could have kept things going one more year without that. And, I posit that we still don’t need to completely duck the 2nd apron even this coming year. If we’re under it the following 3 years we don’t get the pick penalty. So, it’s “just money” for one more year.
Since we’re not contenders, we can start to lessen that and make next summer easier. But the overall plan was solid, and based on accepting the financials of it.
Now, I wish we’d have signed Jrue for $25m/year instead, but I don’t fault the overall plan. It’s only horrible if you think we need to duck the 2nd apron next year, even if we were contenders, which I think is just a false premise.

IMO it's all about getting under the 2nd apron this summer, having a bridge year this season and trying to put ourselves in position to have a contending team during Tatum's age 29-34 seasons.
So I don't really think it makes sense to move that far up in the draft to take some 19 year old kid who won't fit the Tatum timeline. When Tatum is 29-34, this new draft pick would be 21-26. It doesn't fit.
As of now, we've got picks 28 and 32. I don't really expect us picking any higher than 28 next month.

I honestly don't know what they're going to do. I'm guessing they'll be open to any and all possibilities. But if they're keeping JB, look for them to seek out younger role player types that have been underused and undervalued on other teams. Guys in their mid-20s that could have career resurgence on this team. Preferably expiring -- so they can let them go if it doesn't pan out or re-sign/extend them if it does. One of the huge contracts (KP or Jrue) is likely to be moved.
Guys from the late draft that are ready to contribute and make a positive impact on a contending team in 1-3 years are rare.

Brad can go in some many directions yet I hate that Brad is so stealth we won't even get a legit rumor. There is no such thing as an insider since Brad was hired..

They're going to have to get below the tax line if not this offseason then by next and stay below to get off the repeater wheel. We'll see how much better good guy Brad is at shedding cap space compared to that shark Danny.
