Complaining about the extensions is similar to when people whined about the pick swap for DWhite, except post-championship, which is even more absurd. No pick swap, no DWhite Feels like wanting to take the cake and eat it too. World just doesn't work that way. In a fan fiction world, Cs could've denied the extensions and not gotten the trades done to begin with. No title. Any other scenario than what actually happened is fantasy in my book. No point living in that alternate world now.

redslastlaugh wrote:Ultimately, Brad needed to make a choice. If you want to extend Jrue, you have to move off another player, KP, White, whoever ... or you have to have an agreement with a friendly team for an escape hatch plan.
You just need to make choices with foresight because if you don't you run into the huge problem of the owners just saying, "get off this money, that's an order, whatever the cost," and as the GM, you can't box yourself in like that because you're already out 2028 swap and 2029 unprotected 1st and have only 2 seconds over the next 6 yrs too.
You need ur draft capital to retool for JT's second half of career. You can't get stuck. It'd have been better to let Jrue leave like James Posey than resign him to a market negative contract and then have to pay more assets to get off him.
I hope Zarren and Austin are like listen, "Danny will do Jrue 28/32 for John Collins if it comes to that." because that may be a best case outcome for what we're looking at.
I don’t think Brad will be stuck. For one, I think teams like Dal, Hou, Lal all will want someone like Jrue so I don’t think it will be as hard to move him as people think.
But even if it is, Brad has multiple options without getting backed into a corner. Are teams not budging in asking for additional assets to take on Jrue’s deal? Fine, then you hold on to him and make White available, lets see if teams can play hardball when half the league lines up to get him.
I would hate to trade White but if the worst case scenario is getting a haul for him or Jaylen, I’m fine with the situation we’re in

So you tank next year and develop your young talent (#8, #28, #32). You move Porzingis at the deadline, and you still have the league's best backcourt + Tatum to contend in 2026.
You are severely undervaluing Brown. He will get way more than a mid lottery pick if he’s made available

Clips get Jrue #28

Grizz 25/26 starting 5 - Edey-KP-JJJ-Bane-Pippen Jr

Trade Tillman and payroll is down to 207mil for 25/26 season
The payroll in 26/27 minus Jrue is down to 164mil. Dunn and Whiteheads contracts are team options so turn them down. Sign Aldama to a contract to fill the PF/C spot for the next few years. IMO, he's a safer bet then the 28th pick.
C's roster for 25/26
Vucevic-Aldama-JB-White-Pritchard
Neems-Batum-Sam-Rico-Dunn
Whitehead-Fontecchio-Peterson-Norris
2way the 32nd pick
Go into 26/27 season with JT-JB-White-Sam-PP-Aldama-Rico-Neems-Peterson and they still have all their picks for the 26' draft.
Just saying....
Get under the apron, White and JB stay, lots of room in 26/27, get Aldama who is young and has been productive and keep #32 (maybe Broome to fill in the frontcourt)
all that for
#28 and a season with Vucevic, Batum, Dunn and Fontecchio (who are all expiring or team options)
I think all the teams involved make out pretty well

Two things, first I have to laugh at the league's best backcourt. Jrue Holiday is washed, Stevens will be fortunate if he can move him. Second, this trade pretty much guarantees that Jayson Tatum will never see another NBA Finals as a member of the Boston Celtics. Tatum might with another team.

Nah, Tatum will stay. As for Jrue, he was plagued by injuries, largely because he spent the Summer playing in the Olympics. Give him a restful offseason and no Brown to hog the ball and he will have a nice bounce back year. I don't think he's washed at all.
Meanwhile, without Tatum, Brown will take the team nowhere and will be untradeable in a year with that god awful contract.

With his meniscus tear I doubt any team entertains a trade for JB this offseason.

The extension for KP was part of the trade for KP. Brad acquired Jrue he was signed for 2 seasons with a player option for the 2nd. There was nothing about the trade that required an extension.
Extending Jrue before the 2024 playoffs was a big mistake. It was Brad/Wyc living in a fantasy world.

Fanasty. Holiday is finished and nobody even knows what kind of player Tatum will be when he comes back. I believe he will be fine but the historical track record for players coming back from that kind of an injury is not good. Because Tatum is so young I'm hopeful he will be close to the same player that he was.
Tatum is not going to work his ass off to come back from his injury to spend 3-4 years on 35-45 win teams. He will take the Giannis route and look for greener pastures.

Oh, I think the Nets would. Brown will sell tickets for them. Otherwise, they are a 26 win team with no players. Besides, Brown's injury doesn't seem to require surgery, just rest, and if a team doesn't like the MRI they can rescind the deal.

hugepatsfan has been on moving KP for Nurkic and then stretching Nurkic or trying to keep cutting salary with additional trades until you get the cheapst possible player... and then stretch him... which makes sense.
If we're gonna waive/stretch KP, first try to flip KP for a lesser contract

The problem with stretching is that it hurts long term. It's like getting root canal on a tooth that really needs to be extracted.

This is a lot if moving parts. Chicago and Dallas are not rational actors either, lol.
I don't really want Patrick Williams but if we can get out of this mess and the main cost is we have a couple years of Patrick Williams ... get Zarren on the phone, lol
The tap dance to get KP traded down to nil is a thing of beauty, i'll give you that much, lol

hugepatsfan wrote:Good news everyone, I figured it out!!! I'll send this to Brad/Zarren and we can all be on our merry way.Spoiler:
After these series of moves, assuming we also draft and sign #28 and #32, we will have the following 13 players signed:
Derrick White / Payton Pritchard / JD Davison
Jaylen Brown / Baylor Scheierman
Sam Hauser/ Jordan Walsh
Patrick Williams
Neemias Queta / Xavier Tillman
+ Tatum on the injured list, and the #28 and #32 picks whoever they are
Our team salary will be $186,743,734. That is $1,153,266 below the tax with one roster spot to fill. That's tight. They might need to find someone to take Tillman and backfill with someone like Jrue Peterson that is a bit cheaper. Maybe do the same with JD Davison. Will be very, very tight, but they can probably make it work.
Push comes to shove, they could free up an extra ~$800K by keeping Kyle Anderson and sending Hauser into someone's TPE instead, which I think probably saves them the draft capital. But I wanted to keep SOME continuity with our guys.

You don't know that for sure. Agreeing to be traded to the Celtics could've been contingent to a negotiation for an extension later on. Blazers presented Jrue with options and he chose Boston. We don't really know what went on behind the scenes.
My overall point is, doing a woulda-shoulda-coulda when you win is much worse than after you lose. I don't even know what to call that. It's not even sourgraping.

Nahh, in the old PSD forums there were a couple of people who made multiple accounts in the dolphins forum and would just talk to themselves through posts. Post a comment or question and then using a different account comment back or answer the question. Even arguing sometimes.

Pretty weird.

Re: Free Agent, Trade, Buyout, Extension & Conversion Thread, 2025 con't
I’m honestly surprised at how little urgency there is about making real changes to this roster. Yes, we won a championship last year, but look at the bigger picture:
•This year, we had home court against the Knicks and went down 0-2 after dropping both games in Boston.
•Last year, we barely avoided disaster in Game 1 against the Pacers (also with home court), where one play late saved us from losing home court and momentum.
•The year before, we had home court in the ECF and still managed to go down 0-3 to Miami.
There’s a clear pattern: this team keeps showing a “play with your food” mentality, struggles to protect home court in key playoff series, and it’s bitten us repeatedly. Now, with a $500M+ payroll and back-to-back deep drafts, how is there not more appetite for real changes? Every player should be on the table
