Super Bowl XXIV San Fran over Denver 55 to 10. I would also say Super Bowl XXVII Cowboys over Bills 52-17.

Guys, there's only one right answer.
The 2013 Broncos we're "supposedly" the greatest offense. They broke just about every record that year. Yet they we're held scoreless for 3 Quarters.

So what happens in the fourth quarter doesn't count???? Where do we draw the line on that? Well, we stopped them in the first quarter.....so that's the greatest defensive effort ever. It's four quarters boys.

The game was out of reach. It was 36-0 at one point. Carroll went to a prevent defense to milk the clock late in the game. Which led to their only score. If they had kept their foot on the gas the whole game, Denver would not have scored.
I think there's been some really good performances. But that game stands out because of Manning.

For modern times it is 2001 Ravens and not close imo. Giants are the only offense that was shut out, they broke the record for most interceptions and most punts, only had 152 yards.
Not recently but apparently Cowboys only allowed 35 yards passing in 1978 super bowl which is crazy even for that era.

I guess nobody in here saw or heard of the 1986 Bears.

The Ravens played Kerry Collins that year. Good defense. But that Giants team wasn't exactly the greatest show on Turf.

Not sure about SB performance only, that seems like it could be pretty subjective. But the 2001 Ravens are the best defense ever IMO.

Tony Eason & Steve Grogan. Quite the duo.

Fwiw I do think the '85 Bears are the best defense. But that Super Bowl matchup was lopsided for a reason lol.

I've heard that before but that defense emasculated almost every offense and quarterback so I dont think it matters that much.

The question isn’t who had the best defense of all time. It’s who has the best defensive performance in a SB.
My bad: the question said nothing about a SB. So yes the ‘85 Bears would win this one.

Cactus Jack, you make some good points, quality of opponent matters, but last I checked, fourth quarter stats still count...in the record book, on the scoreboard, etc.
You could make the case of the Eagles shutting down the Chiefs in the first half this year, but then where do you draw the line? That's why all four quarters count, every yard gained in the fourth quarter counts, and every point scored goes in the record book as an official stat.

Best defensive coaching performance goes to the 1990 Giants.

You mentioned the 85 Bears and while they may be the best team ever, their opponents were cupcakes in the Super Bowl.
The 1990 Bills were on of the greatest offenses the NFL had ever seen. So I respect that coaching performance.
Not every Super Bowl can be a dominant beatdown like the Eagles blowing out the Chiefs, which shocked you so hard you needed 2 weeks to recover.
