Franz is already a far superior defender and can score with Cade. I don't think Franz' career will be categorized as "bad shooter" long-term. Cade was terrible for a couple years until the team and coaching scheme was modified to bring out his best.

Franz is much bigger and less fluid, but is still very agile and gets to the rim as well or better than anyone. I'm sure that Cade's handles are tighter, but Franz is capable of handling and, if we're playing the right way - NOBODY is pounding the ball. He's highly intelligent and seems to relish the team game - that was evidenced while Paolo was out...why is it so impossible for Paolo and Franz to play more of a 2-man PnR game? Why doesn't Franz, effectively, play PG for this team (in an unconventional way). Not iso-PG, which we see now, but a more traditional PG scheme beyond "drive and kick" and then "Ok, your turn"...I really like Mose, but we might need a new Coach soon...if things don't progress towards more than a schoolyard AAU stars only offense.

Serious question...what ability does Cade have that is unattainable for Franz?

Cade is just a better processor that can create open looks for his teammates. Franz to me is pretty good at making simple passing reads in the PnR and such but he doesn't have eyes on the back of his head like Cade does.

Cade is a really good floor raiser as an offensive engine, you can win a lot of games by default having a guy like Cade. But he does have to shoot better and cut turnovers down to be a championship type 1A player IMO. Both could still level up a bit more if they improve their shooting even marginally.

He doesn't have to "match" Cade as a PG...Cade doesn't have a Paolo (or Simons?)

Well you asked what ability he has that Franz doesn't have and that's what I think it is.

Pistons have a bunch of pretty good players, playable competent depth that buys in on defense is proving to be a way to win these days, they very likely could have beaten the Knicks. I think Ivey is pretty similar to Simons. He also turns it over too much like Cade, and isn't a great defender which is partly why they played better without him, but I do like his upside and think he is trending in the right direction.

I think the Pistons will be aggressive this offseason. Kind of off topic, but I think the Hawks made the GM change with the reason of being aggressive as well. East looks wide open, but I am expecting those teams to make win-now type moves as well as us.

I totally agree with your takes...I was just thinking out loud that he wouldn't have to be quite the processor that Cade is because he's, arguably, not even the best player or leading scorer on ORL. DET is less-talented, top to bottom, than ORL, imo...but MUCH better constructed...it's Cade and a team of specialists. ORL shouldn't take them (or TOR or ATL or MIA or MIL or even CHI) lightly as they all expect to improve and, possibly, make big moves...but I think ORL is closer to contending in the East than any of them...just a well-selected piece or two and a better offensive flow, not a major missing link.

DET could compare missing Ivey to our Suggs' year, but I don't think it's close. Ivey would be great here but, imo, compromised next to Cade. Suggs or KCP next to Cade would be a better fit and Ivey next to Suggs would be a great fit here-I think. My point being that having Ivey might've even dragged their offense down just by confusing the roles, despite being a boost in overall talent. KCP (or Suggs) in theory is Beasley with elite defense...we'll see.

Big summer for anyone with any hopes of keeping up in the East.

A coaching change alone might be the biggest thing or only thing ORL needs to take a leap.

Not necessarily the guy, but the offensive philosophy...or even an assistant with some more creative schemes.

I certainly hope for that along with personnel but I don't think for a second that Weltman, on his boldest day, is looking at one of my 12-step summer plans...and I don't doubt that's a more reasonable expectation.

Personally? The ability to get from the halfcourt to the rim ballhandling even guarded by smaller players. I dunno if Franz can achieve that level of ballhandling.

The Pistons might be the biggest threat to get Derrick White. They have some cap space and picks. They could offer Ivey, cap space, and picks

As good as I think that deal is, I doubt Boston will ever consider moving White. They are only looking to move old bloated contract baggage in Porzingus or JRue.

Crazy how much can change in a year. Last offseason Magic fans would’ve frothed at the chance to overpay JRue and Porzingis. Today, they’re considered bloated contract baggage.

I do like Porzingus more than JRue tho but he is another part time player like Isaac. He could be a difference maker here and fits the Magics cap room timeline. I bet an Isaac, Harris team option and Jett could get that done if a 3rd team could get involved to take on Jetts "expiring" contract and they kept Isaac. Would never take on JRue's contract. Ever.

Siakam and OG helping teams make deep playoff runs. That Raptors championship squad still paying long term dividends.

This team cannot shoot, no matter who is coaching. We need a point guard and some shooters.

This Nesmith shooting is INCREDIBLE! I feel like I’m watching vintage Reggie Miller stuff.

Somebody pay the Pacers a bonus for making the most exciting playoff basketball. Man they’ve been fun to watch.
