Yup, used to feel like death. I was surprised at how now, being 45 years old, being in this position for the first time in 25 years and blowing it like that, my heart wasn't even pumping. I used to have anxiety for days after a loss like as if I had something to do with it.Now it was just a little disappointment, a chuckle and an evil smirk at my 10 year old wearing his Brunson jersey. Welcome to hell, kid. Enjoy feeling like this for the next twenty years.
Anyway, ate a good meal, walked the dog, pumped the wife, slept good. On to Friday.

this is the real problem if you want to acknowledge it. not just for this game or for the playoffs but for the whole season. the starting lineup doesn't work. most people blame josh but i wouldn't say it's his fault really. he might just be the easiest guy to bench.

They have the worst net rating among rotation players in the playoffs - the only two in the red, and by a pretty wide margin.
We need more from them, period.
So we are definitely asking a lot from them.
For the playoffs, Mikal is at 40.2 mpg and OG is at 40.1 mpg
I have been looking at the minutes for all championship teams the last 25 years. 9 of 25 have had a pair of players that averaged over 38 mpg for the entirety of the playoffs.
'21 Bucks had Khris Middleton at 40.1 mpg and J'rue Holiday at 39.7 mpg
'18 Warriors had Draymond Green at 39.0 mpg and Kevin Durant at 38.4 mpg
'10 Lakers had Kobe Bryant at 40.1 mpg and Pau Gasol at 39.7 mpg
'09 Lakers had Kobe Bryant at 40.9 mpg and Pau Gasol at 40.5 mpg
'08 Celtics had Paul Pierce at 38.1 mpg, and both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen at 38.0 mpg
'04 Pistons had Richard Hamilton and Ben Wallace at 40.2 mpg, and Chauncey Billups at 38.3 mpg
'00, '01, and '02 Lakers had Shaq and Kobe each averaging between 39 and 44 mpg for the entirety of the playoffs
So it can in fact be done, but man we are really pushing it to the limit.
OG is the 32nd highest paid player this year at $36.6 million. Next year, he is currently the 30th highest paid player at $39.6 million. We are paying him to be an all-star.
If Mikal gets his 4 year, $156 million max extension, he would be making pretty much the same money as OG.
So if Mikal and OG are hovering around the top 30 highest paid players in the NBA, I guess the expectation for them is to withstand the 40+ mpg they're getting in the playoffs and to out-produce Nesmith and Nembhard on both ends of the floor.

So what do you do? They are so over invested in Bridges and Anunoby - who play the same position, have overlapping skill sets, and are not elite talents. There is no depth. No picks or room below the 2nd apron to round out the roster.
Short term - I would start Precious, keep Mitch and Duce in the roles they are doing well in, and stagger Harts minutes with Bridges/Anunoby.
Long term - the Knicks need to have a serious conversation about breaking up Bridges/Anunoby for depth. But they will never recoup the value they gave up for them.

We are paying them to be something they are not. It’s less on them and more on us.
They gave up all their depth to pay these guys. They gave up all their picks/young players to get these guys. You can’t build a top heavy team without elite talent - and this isn’t just Bridges/Anunoby but Brunson/Towns only being fringe top-10/fringe top-20
This roster is so flawed and the look forward with a bloated cap sheet and no picks looks scary.
