Re: Ochai Agbaji Decision
If the GMs are truly high on Ochai, Masai can use that in a package to get Giannis.

Ochai is gonna be our Nesmith next season.
I've been so high on Ochai for quite some time now! Excited to see what he brings next season.

No, in 2014 we'd be selling high on Vasquez.
And *checks notes* we did!

If we had a 29 year old bench player MIL wanted to give us 2 picks for, we would do it again.

Masai hurt itself in its confusion.
On the plus side, he learned from the GTJ situation. I think. I hope to God the rumours aren't true that they wanted to give him $15+ M AAV. Barf.
I don't think he has, his career has been filled with bidding against himself, and BI is arguably the most recent instance. Ain't no way anyone was giving him that money in the open market.
How do you honestly believe the bs you spout?
In the decade + Masai has constantly had this team full of good, tradeable, positive value contracts with very few bad ones. How can you even suggest he is "bidding against himself".
This might come as a surprise, but it is not good business to earn a reputation as a GM who nickels and dimes his player. This isn't a video game. There is human relationships at play.

Not if we draft Carter Bryant.

lol don’t even bother taking the bait brother you know he’s just trying to troll with the stupid “Masai is incompetent” comments.
If he truly believed Masai was so bad he wouldn’t keep posting that he’s the best at drafting and he wants him making the top 5 picks after tanking “properly”.

I liked that Ochai for one of Dallas' big trade idea that was floated around a month or so ago. Need to open up minutes for some of the other wings on the team, sell high is the ideal option. Worst case, you do let him go.

Okoro and Nesmith both basically got $1.5m under the MLE at the time of signing.
$1.5m under the MLE for Agabji is going to be $14m per year. If he has another solid shooting season he’s going to get close to 4/60m.
That’s Max Struss money. Don’t hate it but if RJ is starting where do the minutes come from?
Minutes is the biggest issue. If we draft another guard/wing someone who deserves minutes is getting squeezed. I would wait it out on Ochai. I don't think he has much of an offensive ceiling outside of 3pt shooting so even if he has another good year he's still probably looking at an MLE level deal. If he were were willing to take slightly lower than the MLE I'd probably offer him a 2+1 so he could get out early for his next deal. That buys us time to figure our rotation out while locking him in at a reasonable price. I'm of the mindset that it's better to have role players on shorter deals in case things go sour (in Ochai's case that would be his shooting).
Truthfully I don't know what's going to happen with our guard rotation. We have too many guys who need minutes. All of them have different upsides, My gut says that losing Ochai would be least painful if a solid deal presents itself. In my ideal world we trade RJ, have one of Walter/Ochai/Dick compete for the starting spot and use the breathing room we get from trading RJ to round out our (current) piddling front court depth.

If the draft falls perfectly you could be correct but let’s say we don’t trade back and no real good C is left so team talks BPA and now you have less mpg for Ochai who is already behind GD and J’KW? How could we trade him for back up C or late first where we pick back up C?
Do we know they’re ahead of him? And even if they are, what if we end up using them in a deal?
If someone is giving us a big offer for him in the summer, that’s one thing. But to actively shop him before the deadline doesn’t make sense. Whether we keep or trade him might not have anything to do with the current depth chart or him specifically by the deadline. And we have no reason to rush.
If you get Khaman M at 9 great you are correct. If not and they draft Carter B or Noa E that means you have 1 C. None of last years end of year Cs will play well for this team. If JP is out 20 games next year you are at best in the playin for what. The rush is paying into tax and not even trying to compete for 6th. No serious team has 1 player above 6’ 9”. All respect to JMo he is not a good C. I’m OK if we want to trade GD for better value. Unfortunately last few years we have a glut of SGs and small SF. Look at Boston KP healthy Chip, KP not out in second round.
Good balanced teams should have 3 PG and 3 C of various talents. For SG to PF you can have some flex.
OKC wanted a C so bad they paid $30 Mil for 1 and look better in season and in playoffs.

Yeah Masai and his team are the best at identifying and developing talent...apparently that just disappears once a player enters the league

A trade like that would make sense and I'd be okay with. Otherwise I think you try and keep him for the right price as he could be a good contributor for years.
