Gregg Popovich Draft - CHAMPIONSHIP - MadNess** vs Snakebites

Post#1 » by durantbird » Fri May 23, 2025 4:32 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: LeBron James (33) | Chris Paul (15)
SG: Bruce Brown (35) | Chris Paul (13)
SF: Eddie Jones (38) | Richard Jefferson (10)
PF: Jayson Tatum (40) | LeBron James (8)
Cc: Patrick Ewing (40) | Kwame Brown (8)

Total: 87.5 | 88.0 FGA

12’-13’ LeBron James 17.8 FGA
23’-24’ Jayson Tatum 19.3 FGA
96’-97’ Patrick Ewing 17.2 FGA
98’-99’ Eddie Jones 11.9 FGA
21’-22’ Bruce Brown 7.0 FGA
24’-25’ Chris Paul 7.1 FGA
15’-16’ Richard Jefferson 4.2 FGA
08’-09’ Kwame Brown 3.0 FGA

GL Snake

LeBron on Malone, Tatum on Bridges, Ewing on Jokic, Brown on White, Eddie on Brunson. See no outliners there. No crazy mismatches.

Plan to pressure and beat up Brunson with Eddie.
LeBron has the ideal body type for Malone.

This is Spurs White, which I got slammed before having him. This isn’t the White we know yet (Boston).

I’m not sure again, how Snake can defend both Tatum and LeBron. Just don’t see it.

Brown as a 5th starter is perfectly fine especially when it’s against Spurs White.

LeBron is the best player in this draft by a lot, then I have him peak Tatum and still in his prime Ewing.

Malone and Jokic is tough, but LeBron and Tatum are a better duo here.

Vote NESS.

Only one team:
22-23 Nikola Jokic- 14.8 FGA
Lockout Season:
98-99 Karl Malone- 16.3 FGA
Spurs:
19-20 Derrick White 8.1 FGA
Knicks:
24-25 Jalen Brunson 18.8 FGA
Nets:
23-24 Mikal Bridges 15.8 FGA
Pistons:
24-25 Isaiah Stewart 4.4 FGA
Cavaliers:
23-24 Dean Wade 4.3 FGA
Heat:
12-13 Shane Battier 5.0 FGA

Brunson (37)/White (11)
Bridges (26)/White (22)
Battier (26)/Bridges (11)/Wade (11)
Malone (37)/Wade (11)
Jokic (37)/Stewart (11)

Alrighty, lets do this.

First and foremost, I'd actually argue that I do have halfway decent tools to defend against this larger perimeter. Switching Battier into the starting lineup gives me a pair of larger wings that can at least credibly offer cover against my opponents two best players- the two players his offense will be heavily reliant on. Nobody stops a Lebron/Tatum pair, but I can at least mount a credible defense.

On the flip side, I do not think a 34 year old Ewing (or any version of Ewing really) is an ideal cover for Nikola Jokic, and given that his best large help defender outside of Ewing will be forced to cover Karl Malone, he'll have to do it largely on his own.

Ness has a great team, but I believe that my pair of MVP's have enough talent and synergy to be extremely effective in this matchup, and I've got the right pieces around them to make this a heck of a battle.

Both teams are excellent and deserve the finals, I think I'll go with MadNESS as I see the perimeter offense being a matchup issue for double big frontcourt.

Didn't think the Malone/Bruce Brown defensive matchup would be what broke me here- though I do get why Ness is getting votes in a general sense.

I actually thought that as far as matchups went I had one of the better ones aganist Ness's team thanks to my ability to use different perimeter defenders. I can definitely accept if people still think that wasn't enough though. Lot of talent on Ness's team.

I missed that in your write up originally, but that would also give you Brunson issues on defense.

I mean, I didn't bring Battier into the starting lineup to guard Bruce Brown.

I don't think "double big" is an issue here- he has an unreliable corner shooter as one of his small guys, which to me largely negates any matchup issue that would stem from that.

If anything it’s the size of his perimeter group that’s hard to deal with- hence the move to make my lineup larger.
