Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
I like Jrue a lot for this team. But isn't his deal for 4 more years? I thought the idea was to get out of the 2nd apron? We're sending Gaff and/or PJ out for a longer contract coming back. So we're staying at the 2nd apron regardless?

His deal has 3 years left.
Mavs should never consider sending PJ, he's just too good a player to be included in such deals.
The cap rises 10% each year, Mavs would be below the 2nd Apron this year and next year, I don't foresee a scenario where Mavs are over the 2nd Apron, it's easy to drop below when you are right at the edge.

I'm not advocating to trade for Jrue BTW, it's just an idea, I think someone like Sexton is safer and easier to fit cap wise, but with the contracts Mavs are sending, it'll cost LAL 1st to get him
Klay/Hardy/Powell/LAL 1st for Sexton/#43

I don't like to trade PJ (mostly with a 20/22M contract resign), if Gafford can't send a starting PG to the Mavs so i'm start to think that unload street clothes is the best move.

Yeah I think the choices are stop gap (CP3) vs long term (Sexton or Coby White types). Will depend on who we send out. I personally think we should keep PJ. You can never have too many "bullets" in a gunfight. Gaff for me looks odd. His dynamic with AD looks odd. I'm not sure how much of that is the lack of a full camp or their games just don't look like they mesh

Street clothes is hanging out with Lively, Nico and Kidd in LA. They're spending the summer talking basketball. I don't think Nico trades away "his guy". I think Kyrie, AD, Lively and Flagg are safe. The rest may be up in the air. I have friends in LA who's seen them in a restaurant together (without Flagg).

I'm curious to see what type of offers are Milwaukee going to get for Giannis now that there are reports that San Antonio and Philly are preferring to stand pat at #2 and #3 respectively.
I mean if Flagg is off the table then Milwaukee can get anyone from the Dallas roster. I'm okay with that.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
This new leadership is so ass and so detached from reality, it's not even fun anymore to be a fan of this team simply because of these idiots running the show.

Apparently Giannis did not request a trade and Bucks will be looking to upgrade the roster. So i guess (for now) the idea is that he is staying.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
I understand the concerns about Holiday because that last year is brutal, but my thinking is that he is a realistic target that would cost us very little if anything in terms of valuable trade capital.
Imagine a lineup of Kyrie/Jrue/Flagg/PJ/AD closing games and still having our current valuable trade assets.

But it's also a combination of all the bull**** things he said after the trade. It started with the brilliant statement when he compared Luka to Monta Ellis trade

And i hope you didn't see the video when he almost danced into the lobby with that nr1 draft pick sign and employees were lined up on each side to greet him like he was the king of some 3rd world country. Just unreal how low this FO has fallen in the past few months.

Wow!
I saw Kidd PR tour on DLLS podcast, I though he lacked taste telling fans to get over it, this one is even worse...

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
A Mavs offseason to consider IMO
It's beyond evident Nico is too close to AD, and this is a clear conflict of interest with respect to doing what's best for the team you are supposed to manage. The owners need to right this wrong immediately:
1. Fire Nico Harrison & Jason Kidd
2. Let Finley run the show, see if Coach K from Duke is interested in a head of basketball-type position, or hire a retread like David Griffin
3. Let that new GM hire the coach, maybe someone like Taylor Jenkins
4. Trade AD for a package that brings back an all-star or near-all-star level player with some picks you should have gotten when trading Luka
Something like
Dallas Receives: Brandon Ingram, #39 pick (via TOR), TOR 2026 FRP, TOR 2028 FRP, Ochai Agbaji, Payton Pritchard
Toronto Receives: Anthony Davis
Boston Receives Grady Dick
Tor gets the best player and can compete right away in an even more wide-open East, like they did with the Kawhi trade, though this won't be a rental. Boston sheds some salary and Dick can slide into a wing spot with Tatum out next year. Dallas gets Ingram who will fit better with Flagg/PJ/Lively and help alleviate offensive woes with Kyrie out. They recoup picks they should have gotten originally, and Pritchard can be their stop gap PG while Irving recuperates.
Lively/Gaff
PJ/Naji
Flagg/Klay
Ingram/Christie
Irving**/Pritchard/Tyrese Proctor (drafted with #39)
Some more deals are needed like shipping out Klay or Martin, but this would be a start that I could get behind.

Exactly. That's why people are saying they haven't seen a fanbase so "unhappy" with nr1 pick as Mavs fanbase

It's not even about nr1 pick or how good Flagg can be, this FO created such a deep mess, it's almost non repairable unless at least Nico is fired.

Klutch will have black SUVs surrounding Nico's house even before the pen hits the paper. Sending AD to Canada? Rich Paul will raise hell.

Kyrie, AD, Lively, and Flagg are definitely going to be the core for their current championship run (next 2-3 years). I really think they go with a stop gap PG. Maybe they get lucky and find a serviceable PG late in the draft like they did with Brunson?

Not arguing that, but so is AD. So if Ingram comes with picks, I'd do it personally

Obviously if they can get Giannis without giving up Flagg, Lively, AD, or Kyrie (current core) that would be a HUGE. I just don’t see it happening though. First I don’t think Nico wants to gut the team, even for Giannis. If they are trying to avoid the 2nd apron either AD or Kyrie have to be involved in the trade. Paying 3 guys max money just doesn’t really work under the current CBA. You’re better off taking that 3rd max contract and spreading it around. We’ve already seen Phoenix fail at trying to create a “super team”.
