Taking the Pulse of the Board re: Giannis

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Fri May 23, 2025 3:49 pm

Okay its time to have the talk, is it time for a Giannis thread?

Pros: We are having a dozen variation of the same deals every day
We have some posters getting triggered and this takes away any excuse of that as they can simply avoid just one thread
We get a ton of repetitive points and arguments
Other interesting threads get knocked off the first page and don't get attention they deserve

Cons: Absolutely none

And yes this is me stacking the deck. And I don't care. I am being clear upfront I believe its time, but if you guys don't want it, I won't force it. But I am encouraging it. :D

Should convert that previous thread asking for best offers. Lot of good stuff in there imo.

Seems like a good idea. Lots of speculation.

I prefer an open forum over containment threads, but especially if a core reason for containment is because some posters are getting "triggered". In general I think it's best for the board contributors to decide which threads thrive due to their attention and which wither due to the lack thereof.

So do I. Hence us having almost no containment threads.

As to the triggered, I am the only really active mod during this period. So it falls on me to deal with almost all the reports when the name calling and personal attacks start. I have given so many soft reminders to the same posters, I'm honestly just over it. And I hate issuing formal warnings or giving time outs when the solution is so easy -- just avoid threads that trigger you.

If the moderation has become too taxing, now that is certainly a valid reason for containment, imo.

I usually dislike an early containment thread, because new ideas get passed by so quickly. But at this point, it feels like the same 3 or 4 iterations of a deal getting tweaked just a little, so makes sense for them to all be in one place.

I think we do not need a containment thread UNLESS it gets to be like 20 different ones that are mostly similar. Until then, let's have fun.

I personally would love to see fewer Giannis trade threads, so I'm 100 percent on board

I think we could make a containment thread interesting by opening it for a few days with an invitation to fans of teams that might be in for a Giannis trade to submit the best offer they think their team would make, then closing submissions and inviting comments from others on which of those deals (or none of them) they think would be best for the Bucks and why.

should just contain it unless he actually asks out

no need for 5 threads with lowball offers a day because of one anonymous "league sources" report that came out on lottery day that didn't even say he wanted to leave

Giannis has the right combination of circumstances where, for the first time, a trade is not completely out of the question.

There is a reasonable case, both from the Bucks POV, and Giannis POV, that it might be better if Giannis was moved somewhere else.

This is why there is a bunch of Giannis talk.

I vote no until draft week... I don't mind multiple Giannis threads right now, but I'd prefer other draft related trades closer to and following the draft

Also if we consolidate... can we have OP update with generally accepted ideas so we don't need to go through an entire thread just to see what Bucks fans want in return. Maybe have Bucks fans state what they would need in return and quote them in OP?

I think it's time for a containment one

I really appreciate everyone's feedback. I think its mixed enough that we will continue with the status quo for now and can re-visit as needed.

We can always have a refresh containment thread ?

Once when nba finals is over , once at draft , and once at free agency. Have a sort of here are the best deals offered so far . Please outbid .

I prefer separate threads to discuss separate trade proposals. Containment threads get convoluted.
