Re: The Official 2025 Offseason Thread Part 2
Jeezus…. Yall are sure banking on a KD trade.
What’s the plan to improve if nothing but lowballs get offered? Deal him anyway for salary scraps, and a few picks?
Our mighty trade packages consisting of Allen or O’Neal and a late pick won’t yield much.
No free agents other than Minimum deals.
Two draft picks going to help fill the holes ?
And then there is Beal
Running it back doesn’t seem like much of a plan.
Reality is creeping in and could soon crush your fantasies.
Seriously, is there a valid ‘Keep KD’ pathway?
Please don’t take this as an opportunity to tout the benefits of trading Booker. Yall have worn that out.

Yes, deal him for a B deal if thats the case. Holding on to a player for pride is stupid. Emotion should not be involved. Emotion is why Ishbia traded for Durant in the first place
Running it back would be stupid

TBH trading KD for even just picks is better than keeping him. He is a worthless leader, and doesn't make anyone around him better. I would rather 2 young kids with potential who will hustle.

TBH - Suns need a veteran leader, someone who is vocal, tough, and knows how to run an offense. Kinda like we had in CP3
Who is that player?
The only ones I can think of that could be had, potentially.
Fred Van Vleet
TJ McConnell
Russ Westbrook
Marcus Smart ?
Jrue Holiday?

I think a proposed trade I saw was if the Rockets pick up the FVV option of 44m - -they could add Jabari Smith and maybe a FRP for Durant. I like the idea as I tink the Suns need a PG - especially if they are keeping Durant. The model is there for a team with Devin Booker and it starts with a strong PG. I know there is talk of a Center - but just get better players around him (that might not be duplicative SGs -- okay!!)

I still think the Suns should be focused on talent. Now, I would probably take SG off the list since they have Booker and Beal... but just get better players. I get they need to fill out a roster. That said, with Beal possibly not being on the roster, Allen and O'Neale as well - if the true best player by a long shot is SG - take them
But, all things equal - PG and C are pretty big needs!

That guy is Jrue and if we could get him together with a pick for KD, I would do it. Boston is selling him low together with a pick to get rid of his salary because they are not going to be contenders next year.
He is a leader, a defensive anchor, no requirements on having the ball a lot and a player who is going to dictate the offense to some extent. He could control Booker, the tempo and our style.
Boston could want KD to get rid of him in a year and they need a player for Tatum, who is going to be out a year.
It could work.
If not, we need to trade someone who is on a final year... we do not have any...
Another player I would like to get is Aldama. He needs to renew or go and Memphis also needs to renew JJJ. But they mostly have every kind of player and a lot of young ones. Bigs, smalls, shooters, bangers, etc.

Jrue makes a lot less than Durant - close to $20m and has a player option in 2027/2028 - for that reason ,I don't think the right fit. Plus the Celtics are so hard capped - they want to cut salary - not take on a lot more of Durant
Hence, why I like FVV as a possible option because he would be an expiring, or maybe you extend one year. I think the Suns really need to look at getting the cap cleaned up in two summers.
Ishbia I know won't do that but I think this needs to be a thought out process and nothing just on the fly

15 million….. I’ve mathed it out multiple times here. Think it’s right.
If you think his camp is just vacationing, go ahead. He’ll have suitors if he doesn’t already. WTF you think agents do? Dude is likely to make money by leaving.
I don’t think the MadMatter is the type to throw in the towel. if he doesn’t get a sweet deal for KD, real sweet, he’ll gladly keep him. Cant give him away. He and theG will go into plan B mode of adding some legit pieces… and that’s hard to do without stretching Beal. Well, let’s just say it’s a lot easier If you do. There as so few options if not. May be we should prepare ourselves for a run back eh? No Thanks.
Im sure a question to the possible coaches is ‘What would you do with Bradley’
If he only has to give up $15 million which he definitely would make with a new team over 2 years, and likely more, I guess it's probable, but I think he'd need to know what teams were willing to give him a deal. I could see teams like the Clippers or even young contenders adding him if it's just for the MLE. I'd still hate to see his cap # hitting us for 5 years, when it doesn't even clear enough for us to do anything meaningful other than trade players together or maybe use the tax MLE. Neither of those things are going to make us much better (if any better).

Jrue is significantly less value than KD. We'd need alot more than a single pick coming back for that swap.

It's like holding onto a declining stock because you remember the price it used to be, and continuing to watch it go down, while your money disappears.

I think Orlando would be a good fit…. And I think we can get under the tax number and use the full MLE… if not then a stretch is really just a tax saving move to offset the blunder that is Beal.
Has there been a team in the past 5 yrs that has had more boneheaders than this one? The ‘What could have been’ file is full.
drafting Smith over Halliburton …. Over paying for KD…. Acquiring Beal…. Trading Toumani/Ayton….. the whole coaching circus….
We’ve shttt our pants just too many times. No wonders we are in this pickle.

If Spurs get Durant and have Fox, Harper and Castle, KD will be licking his chops on that team for the kickout. It's a really good fit for him.
It really is, I have said that. Fox and or Wemby can be the focal point, or even the two man game between them. It would give Durant a lot of open shots and only short stents of having to create.

I really hope Oso is working super hard this offseason at trying to turn himself into a PF. His size an athleticism slot him into Pf and some small ball C but I really hope he is working on Pf skills and his shot.

I would be shocked if that jumper was fixable.

The only way to get out of this is to run it back unless we can get some of the trades that have suggested.
My favorite is the Miami trade:
KD for 54.7 out
Ware, 4.4 - Center of the future
Wiggins 28.2-
Robinson 19.8
Jovic - 4.4
Miami in - 56.8
+ Miami's 1st round pick this year #20 (PG or another big - should be best player available)
The numbers will need to be worked out better than I have but if we can end up with Ware, Jovic and some 1st round picks that could work. As long as Miami can get rid of Wiggins and Robinson that could work for them. We could be competitive this coming season as well as Miami. This also would be the start of a roster make over. We probably keep Beal and try to have the new head coach work him into his system. Then drop him for 27/28 season unless he has a magical rebirth under the new head coach. Same goes for Wiggins and Robinson.
Hire Quinn as our new head coach.

Thats been my point about why stretching Beal - strictly in terms of helping the roster - is just activity and not accomplishment.
Saves Ishbia a ton of money but getting the MLE -- that really doesn't do anything

Sure it does. It yields a legit player(s) who is an asset … to contribute or trade. You have to accumulate actual NBA-ers and not fill out your roster with Gleaguers who have no value. Cap space is one thing, but it also takes talent to get talent
