Lets Hammer out this deal: Nuggets/Jazz/Nets

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Fri May 23, 2025 9:03 pm

Denver Trades: Michael Porter Jr., Zeke Nnaji, Julian Strawther, 2032 1st rd pick(top 3 protected)
Receives: Cam Johnson, John Collins

Brooklyn Trades: Cam Johnson
Receives: Collin Sexton, Julian Strawther

Utah trades: Collin Sexton, John Collins
Receives: Michael Porter Jr., Zeke Nnaji, Den 2032 1st rd pick(top 3 protected)

Why: Denver gets two strong additions to their teams. John Collins likely being a rental as they have him be their sixth man who plays 28-30 minutes off the bench and Cam Johnson who is a good role player that got featured a bit more on a losing team. Brooklyn gets back a youngish PG in Sexton who they can evaluate as he is on an expiring deal. Also they get Julian Strawther who has some promise just needs more playing time to develop. Utah takes back some salary and they can try to move Porter in another deal later. They get a future 1st from Denver as well.

How close is this deal?? I know Brooklyn is high on Cam Johnson but I just don't see him bringing in too much value when Cleveland was able to get a better player in Deandre Hunter for 3 2nd rd picks and Caris Levert. Denver can add some pick swaps MAYBE Peyton Watson if they get something back.

If Utah does their deal, I think you can save this with a different third team.

Brooklyn should be tanking and maxing their future draft capital. Sexton is young and talented enough to have a nice market, but it shouldn’t be a team that should be hoping to win 10 games. And if Brooklyn makes a win now move, Giannis, then they need to be aiming higher than this

I don't think Brooklyn would do that. Not much of a return for Cam Johnson.

Feels like Utah is paying for Denver to get better players than they’re shipping out. Seems like Sexton could fetch a protected pick without bringing back massive amounts of bad salary.

I think Cam Johnson can fetch a mid 1st (or future 1st with decent protections) and expiring salary. I cannot see why they would forgo that for an expiring Sexton when they are tanking still.

I think to fix this trade you really need to pay Brooklyn the kind of value they would be looking for and get MPJ to a team that is a for sure playoff team and would value his contributions much more than Utah would.

Why on earth would the Nets give away their best player for an expiring Sexton with no draft picks coming back?

This deal makes no sense.

Not doing that for a protected first. If it is unprotected we can send back 2nds, absorb a bit more salary, etc.
