The Celtic’srun last season is looking much better

With Indy taking out the Knicks like their fans took out the Trash they are proving it was no fluke.

It's way too early for that . 2 games is nothing anything could happen.

So if I'm understanding the premise correctly:
The Celtics' run last season looks better because they swept the Pacers in '24, and now the Pacers are two wins away from reaching the finals.

Applying the same logic as OP, couldn't you argue the championship run look worse because the Celtics brought back the same team and proceeded to lose to a Knicks team the Pacers beat in the second round in '24? Or does this reasoning not go both ways?

It's almost as if this is a completely new season and you can't draw direct parallels from one season to the next.

Celtics run last season doesn't look better or worse just because some people online said or not said stuff, while their team currently underperforms in WCF (though personally I think it's more about how awesome this Pacers team is, and fully healthy this year, finally).

I'm not a Knicks fans, yet:
- they had (and have) a great season so far
- they are back in WCF after what, 25 years? And no reason to think they won't stay a contender in the next 3-4 years
- yes, they are 0-2 down, but it's not like they are outclassed, and both games went down to the wire

You’re right that you can’t draw parallels. But the loose point being made is the claim that the Celtics had a cupcake run to the finals and given both teams are nearly the same it supports Indy being better than given credit for.

Indy just lacked somebody holding the useless “star” label so their ECF appearance was marginalized as a fluke or something absurd.
156-1 Celtics are frauds when pressure is put on them. They would have been toast if Luka was not stupid enough to foul himself out. Enjoy this ONE finals win. There will never be another with the Js and the Celtics cant afford stacked team.
OP point is fairly simple. People said Boston was lucky to play IND in conf finals last year but now essentially the same team is poised to make the finals so maybe they were undersold last year. It’s pretty straight forward.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re trying to say in the second paragraph here. I can’t follow the logic at all.

Looking back to 2015, the Celtics’ run has been something of a disappointment. They won 48 games in 2016 and entered that offseason with a stockpile of assets, creating sky-high expectations for the next era. Fast forward nearly a decade, and they’ve managed just two Finals appearances and one championship to show for it. Yes, winning a title is a significant achievement—but given the landscape of the league, including multiple injury-riddled seasons for the Warriors and other contenders, there were certainly windows where Boston could have capitalized more fully. The opportunity was there for a more dominant run.

If anything, it's looking worse. And I root for the Celtics.

Another one that completely disregards the injuries the Celtics have had to go through. Going back to Hayward snapping his ankle off and Kyrie’s surgeries.

Heat with no Jimmy
Cavs with no Spida for 2/5 games
Pacers with no Haliburton for 2/4 games

Yes, what a truly amazing run.

This is where Lakers and Celtics fans agree on: if you’re not in the headlines, just bring up the past and past titles

Last season was a fluke, this season was also a fluke in that Boston, while being very very soft is not normally this level of Charmin extra soft.

But they lost to the Knicks this season.

Then again, the Pacers beat the Knicks in 1995 so you're probably right.

Brown hurt, Porzingis hurt, etc. The Knicks played a great series. The Celtics team was not near full strength. Both things are true.

The Celtics were head and shoulders above the league last year in advanced stats. They've won 60+ games in back to back seasons. Some people favored the Mavs last year, then tried to back off like they were some bad team. Nobody was beating the Celtics last year. OKC is looking the same this year, though you can't put anything past Indiana right now...they've been amazing. But still lots of conference finals hoops to be played.
