sixers fans debating vj vs ace... It's interesting to see other fan bases basically have the same back and forth discussions that we are. But don't necessarily think there are any right or wrong answers here. I may have a preference for now mostly based off of personality and what I think the Hornets need most, but the separation between these players in my mind is pretty minuscule. My biggest fear with ace has never been about his talent or physical profile but mostly about his maturity and if the Hornets Locker room and Hornets coaching staff could ever get the best out of him, and if so what does that timeline look like. Conversely my biggest fear with vj is less about his jump shot and more about his ball handling, But I have zero questions about his maturity or fit with the team. By most accounts both players have tremendous work ethic.

The chasedown blocks look great and all but I'm far more impressed by the quick hand strips and his anticipation in the passing lanes.

I think we should give a pick to move up to 3 and take him.

The Dallas 2027 would be kind of rich. Maybe we could get a player back from Philly as well.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
When you already dont have many assets, you dont waste them imo. If Edgecomb (and i like the Oladipo comparison as long as its legit) was a sure thing, i would say its worth it. But there are way too many question marks behind the two first (supposedly) picks this year.
Paying to get to the #2 is another story
But again, you cannot waste picks like they grow on Charlotte trees. Even the Dallas one could be still worth it.

If we use the picks in the draft, we waste them

I think VJ has the attitude, athleticism and IQ we need that we need to secure him. He's several tiers below Flagg and Harper, but its the best we can do

I have never been so excited about someone getting drafted by us since Donovan Mitchell. He is more Oladipo than Mitchell tho.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
Seeing him fall to #5 and #6 on many big boards, chances are too high he is there at 4 to trade up. I would take Ace or Tre over him at #4 so yeah I would be fine if he went #3 anyways.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
I think Oladipo on defense is a solid bet, who was a very good defender but far from elite because it is tough to be elite at that size.
I think we see an 80% defensive EPM type of player, which is a big upgrade for us at guard but I don't see the physical measurements to be a lockdown defender and he will also be limited in who he can guard in the NBA. He will be too small to guard the premier wings like Tatum, SGA, Luka and Kawhis... but he will be solid on the Haliburton, Trae Young, Ant Man, Mitchell, Morant, Brunson and Herro guys.
So with the majority of those guys in the East, I see the appeal and would be perfectly fine with the pick. I do think he is probably overrated on offense by a pretty big margin right now, but at #4 it is tough to expect a two way star.

I want VJ. He'd sell tickets and make Hornets games fun to watch, kind of our version of Vince Carter. Plus he fits so well with Melo and Brandon

He would definitely be a reason to tune into games next year.NMBSurfin wrote:I want VJ. He'd sell tickets and make Hornets games fun to watch, kind of our version of Vince Carter. Plus he fits so well with Melo and Brandon

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
Not a huge believer in VJ on the offensive end and honestly I would like him to be bigger to be considered a really good defender because his height and length isn't awesome. However, going eastern conference team by team VJ might be fine because the majority of teams in the ECF best player right now is smaller guards that VJ could guard.
Best scorer on each Eastern Conference Team
Atlanta- Trae
Boston- Tatum and Brown
Brooklyn - Cam Thomas
Charlotte- LaMelo
Chicago- Coby White
Cleveland- Mitchell and Garland
Detroit- Cade and Ivey
Indiana- Haliburton
Miami- Herro
Milwaukee- Giannis and Dame
Knicks- Brunson
Orlando- Paolo and Wagner
Philadelphia- Embiid and Maxey
Toronto- Quickley and Barnes/
Washington - Poole
vs the West with AD, Jokic, Durant, Kawhi, LeBron, Luka, Zion, Sabonis, Wemby, Markkanen,

you've voiced your opinion that drafting for roster need is a folly, do you think drafting for fit within your conference at the time of drafting is in the same bucket?

Probably a better chance that LaMelo or Mark are not on the team, than Brunson, Hali, Herro, Trae, Cade and Maxey aren't in the east anymore.
So for this convo yeah I would probably feel better about taking VJ for fit against the current rest of the east than fit with the current roster which just won 19 games.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
Its funny peoole are obwrthinking this. If VJ is there at 4 amd we take him. It would be up there with Melo and Miller and the most no brainer picks in the past 20 plus years. Its not hard. He doesn't have the size but is an inch across the board bigger then Jrue Holiday in every category who is considered a big lock down guard. Make it make sense.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
The Hornets have the following picks over the next few years.
2025 - 4, 33 and 34
2026 - Own, Pick 26ish (worse of swaps)
2027- Own, Dallas, Miami
2028- Own
I think we can draft guys like VJ when we aren't picking top 5 either with our own pick or one of the many others we own.
Guys like Nique Clifford, Cedric Coward, Devin Carter, Ryan Dunn, Cason Wallace, Ben Sheppard, Tari Eason, Christian Braun, Peyton Watson, Aaron Nesmith, Josh Green, Jaden McDaniels, etc..
Can be found picks 10-30 in the draft. When you are picking top 5 you need big 2way wings or elite on the ball scorers or elite offensive bigs.
