MJ is Zeus. Hes Haley's Comet. Can we stop comparing everyone to him

Post#1 » by DorianRo » Sat May 24, 2025 11:03 pm

No one will EVER match MJ. He is the epitome of basketball perfection. A perfect physical and mental balance for basketball. Big hands, lean body, mental toughness, flexibility etc. . Kobe is great but hes a bum ass version of him.. Lebron is a brokeback Magic Can't touch Magic much less MJ. SGA will never touch him

Well if he's Halley's Comet then saying that no one will ever match him doesn't make sense, as the the sport of basketball will probably still be around the next time Halley's Comet appears (2061).

This sentiment is why any debate around MJ turns into nonsense.

This is the level of delusion (at times) coming from the MJ camp.

Whenever people attempt an honest conversation it is often this kind of nonsense that derails it.

Anyone that thinks MJ was 'perfect' or well beyond anyone else whos ever played is never worth taking seriously because it's clear you are leading with how you feel, versus what actually was.

Jordan is not even a top 3 all-time player. If he played today, nobody would think he was the GOAT. They'd call him a worse Lebron.

Physically and mentally there was never a more perfect construct of a basketball player than MJ. Nope there wasn't. Name one. He had the physical aspects of everyhting, was never satisfied being 2nd best, would seek out challenges etc. Once he got to the finals, refused to lose. A career 30 ppg regular season player who would only up his game in the post season

Lebron colluded his entire career, and cant even manage a winning record in the finals and had great post seasons when the going got tough in the west LOL. Imagine MJ colluding around the league for 2 decades

I don't understand why this would even matter. What's the difference between being drafted by a great team, like the Showtime Lakers, versus colluding to go to a great team (like Kobe did before he was drafted)? You end up on a great team either way. What's the relevance? All that matters is your impact in context; and Lebron had rougher context when you compare year by year.

MJ was neither drafted by a great team or colluded once. Kobe deserves props for 2009-2010 regardless. . I dont think Lebron deserves props for any title he got. All his 4 were collusion titles with HOF talent

So if you have a better GM, how is that better/worse? It has nothing to do with how good you are.

Russell has a better case in terms of a physical/mental combo. More so when we factor in leadership. What MJ has on Russell is all around scoring and playmaking skill. Russell was even more of a physical freak and who wins 8 titles in a row to begin with but then loses once and is determined to win more? Russell also had all of MJ's competitive nature except he did more winning. I don't even dislike MJ. I grew up with him being the phenomenon he was but you are too eager to place him on a pedestal by himself when he doesn't deserve that. It's doing a disservice to others.

Except Russell played in a barely professional league.

It wasmt very hard for my *favorite player on the court vs MJ. Most of the time it was fun to play against Jordan and Chicago. Its funny listening to Bulls announcers here asking for protection for MJ lol.

* = would still draft him #1 over MJ with no hesitation.

You can add as many caveats as you feel you need to but everything I said is true. You have to use the league argument to diminish what he was as a player.

Or, you know, the fact that Russell wouldn't even be a top 10 player in today's game. At least with Jordan you know he'd probably be top 10.

These are just weird red herrings you are throwing out right now given what I actually said. Even weirder that you expect others to accept that sort of opinion as though its fact when its just your opinion. So w/e. When I was replying to was the statement is the ultimate combo of physical and mental attributes in a bb player. Now suddenly we are talking about how good you think they'd be in today's game.

How are you the 'ultimate combo' of bball athleticism/intellect if you can't be a top 10 player today?

What about today's game would make it more difficult for MJ? I really don't see anything stopping him or making him a worse player.
