Cowley: Bulls Zoned in on Demin at 12

Post#1 » by boozapalooza » Sun May 25, 2025 2:07 pm

https://chicago.suntimes.com/bulls/2025/05/25/matters-of-fact-and-fiction-for-bulls-offseason

May or may not be threadworthy, but thought it was interesting to see Cowley is reporting the Bulls are “zoning in on Egor Demin at 12”, while Derek Queen is not on their radar due to athleticism concerns and his fit with BD’s uptempo pace

Demin has been crushing the predraft process and may not last until 12. Seems a bit redundant with Giddey already on the team, but we have to go BPA. He measured 6’9 without shoes and I like how he elevated BYU this past season.

Slight correction, he measured at 6' 8 1/4" at the NBA draft combine. Which of course is still tall.

As one of Demin's only supporters on the board, this makes me very happy. As long as someone like Maluach or Coward aren't available then.

I'm a talent over need guy, but it's hard to imagine a player we need less than Demin.

I find it extremely hard to believe that AK is considering something I agree with.

Gotta be a smokescreen to see who leaks info to Cowley

Agree. Don’t care. I don’t think I’ve entered a Bulls draft less interested in need since the Elton Brand draft in which we needed everything.

He averaged 9.8 points on 38/22/66 with 5.5 assists and 3.2 TOV in 27 MPG in conference play. He shot 3-13 total in BYU's two conference tournament games. Played better in the NCAA Tournament. Not sure how much he elevated BYU this year.

I guess the good news is that they aren't focused on Queen.

Maybe they see Demin has improved his shot? Maybe they have a S&T lined-up for a star for Giddey?

The one thing that AK hasn't done IIRC is put out misleading signals regarding his interest. :(

If he is impressing teams during the pre-draft process, maybe he is also impressing some team ahead of us.

He's always been high on my realistic list. I think him and Giddey actually would be a lot of fun together with their huge size and great passing. We won't be able to out talent teams, but we might Be able to outsmart and out run them.

While I hate Cowley, he has proven to have inside track. He was the first person in on the Jimmy dysfunction in Chicago. Few months later Jimmy was gone. He often operates off of factual info.

I don't really care a lot about need either FWIW.

Generally in this range, the talent discrepancy is not all that large, so it's really just about whom develops the best from this point forward and either overcomes their weaknesses or increases their strengths even more.

I don't have any particular reason to think that is Demin vs the next guy (nor to think it is anyone else vs Demin). I probably wouldn't naturally be hoping Demin is the guy who falls, but if we land him I also won't worry about it.

#1, I completely trust this info. The Bulls have a tendency to decide on a guy and then broadcast it.

#2, this guy would have a lot of work to do to be good at an NBA level but he is starting with a good base

I like Egor but my favorite is Newell. I think Port might take Demin, he'd be a good 6th man for them.
I also like the idea of finding a later pick and getting Fleming, then Demin at #12 makes more sense

All this.

Demin will never be a plus defender or able to get his own shot. He would have to become an elite movement shooter and passable on D. Both big asks. His median outcome is taller Kevin Huerter. His passing would be fun with Giddey but I don’t know how you can play them together on D.

I’m fine with Demin if Coward Noa KJ and Fleming are gone. They won’t be. Like Demin iver Queen which isn’t saying much.

Demin is a cream puff. No athletic advantage. Has nothing off the bounce. Our hope would be the 3 ball. There is a real chance hes Duncan Robinson

Where’s the talent? is my question

Not gifted athletically. No strong shooting indicators.

Was not a top 3 player on a fringe top 25 college team.

What on earth are you talking about

After Demin went off against scrub teams he looked awful against real teams. Watch full games.

His workout videos are showing legit movement 3s with great mechanics but who knows if it translates.

What are you talking about?
