Farewell Seasons Draft (00 to now) - Discussion
Draft Rules:
1. All NBA seasons from 1999-00 to 2023-24 are eligible, subject to the restrictions outlined below.
2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players in 8 rounds. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations. Any player chosen in a season that is pre-merger will have a multiplier of 0.85 applied against their actual fga, rounded to closest 0.1.
3. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.
4. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected. He needs to play at least 50% of his games for an eligible franchise.
5. Strongly recommend to fully read section 5
Each player you select must be selected in a season where he played 50% of his games for a franchise in a season defined as his "farewell season" for the team.
A Farewell Season is defined as follows:
- Last eligible season (50% of his games in the season played for the franchise) as a player for the team
- If 2024-25 is an eligible season for a certain team, then his previous seasons for the team cannot be considered farewell seasons for the club (e.g. Steph Curry doesn't have a farewell season for GSW yet)
- Notice 2024-25 cannot be used
Few clarifications and examples:
- If the player's last games for the club were played in a season which isn't considered eligible, for example Kawhi 18' for the Spurs, then his previous eligible season for the club (given there is one) is considered the farewell season, for Spurs Kawhi it's 17'
- Continuing the example above, Luka's farewell season with Dallas is 24' and not 25', because in 25' he played more than half of his games for the Lakers
- If a player left the club and then made a comeback, his final eligible season for the club is the farewell season and not necessarily the last year of the previous tenure. That said, notice a season like Garnett 07' is eligible, because his comeback seasons for Minnesota fail to reach the games minimum. On the other hand, Ben Wallace 06' isn't a farewell season for example, because he has eligible seasons in his comeback tenure for Detroit.
- Anthony Davis doesn't have an eligible farewell season yet for Lakers, as 25' is the one considered his last eligible Lakers season
6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA.
7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.
8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.
9. Draft order will be completely randomized.
10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.
11. The winner of the draft will be determined by polls. AI will be used as a single vote when a matchup is tied and stuck.
Team Roster Page Rules:
You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:
. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA
-All of the above must be completed before playoffs/rankings

I really like the originality of the concept, but it seems too research heavy for my current availability, so I’m out.

You mainly need to remember which player was relevant when switching clubs, but in terms of using many lesser used versions, yeah there's high potential for that here

ok
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I wonder if 7 guys is enough, even if we tighten the timeframe. Maybe if we go 2000s to now, that can be fine.

Reviewing the pool, I think we'll be fine with 7 guys and 00s to now timeframe. I'm changing the timeframe and we'll start. With only seven guys, we'll use rankings.

What about players who have an ineligible season in 2025, but have an eligible season in 2024 or another prior season with the same team?
