Re: Chicago Sky 2025 season thread
Is there a need for an OT WNBA thread?
Why so much talk about Caitlin Clark in the Sky thread? And I say this as someone who has followed her, and been a fan of her's since her freshman year.

As I recall, we had this conversation last year and decided that all WNBA topics were OK, because if the thread was Sky only then it wouldn't get much action. But I'm happy to make this about the Sky only, if that is the new decision.

Is that the vote? WNBA overall? I am happy to change the title if that is what others want, but maybe this year they would like Sky only?

Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

It would only seem right. I didn't know this thread was being used as such (WNBA as a whole) since last year, until you stated it. So it might help get more a little more discussion going.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.
NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Sky thread was relevant for EDD (but she sat out for us) and when Candace Parker returned. Now we have Reese I'm sure it be talked about a lot. But there are WAY better players.

early returns on dropping the best offensive player from an already-bad offensive team are not looking good, shockingly

Re: Chicago Sky 2025 season thread
I can't criticize the Sky's Twin Towers decision very severely, because a #3 and a #7 pick in the WNBA is highly unlikely to provide two cornerstone player. That's like getting a #7 and a #17 in the NBA. But yeah, it's not looking promising. Cardoso hasn't yet figured out how to have any real impact, and Angel clearly is a role player. A super deluxe role player, to be sure, and excellent for her draft position ... but still.
Of course the Sky will look better when not playing contenders but it's hard to see them finishing very far from the bottom of the league. With discontent on the way.
Oh, and thread title edited.

I cannot help but to wonder what in the hell happened behind the scenes that made it so necessary to not even tender an offer to Carter. She was NEVER a bad player on the floor and (as mentioned) was the most consistent scorer that we had.

Starting to look like Angel’s diva personality, Sky prematurely making her the face and decision-maker has backfired fast. Why is the top pick low-post college star averaging less FGAs than the rebounding specialist shooting 23%?
Last place offense and defense with -35 net rating.

Nah, I don’t buy that. Reese was dropping dimes to Cordosa all game long and she too was missing a lot of easy shots. Reese isn’t holding back Cordosa nor was Reese drafted to be the face of the team. She became the face of the team because fans couldn’t stop talking about her in relation to Clark and Cordosa hasn’t yet proven worthy of being the face of this team. The Sky’s issue right now doesn’t star or end with Reese. In fact, she’s about the only player on the team that shows up consistently.

I've been wondering that all off season, because it's not just the Sky. No WNBA team made an offer to Carter, who is 26 years old and was 14th in the league in points per game.
In the NBA, a player with those abilities would get several offers the day after he received parole, after serving 3 years for assault & battery. But in the WNBA a player without a criminal record, or even to my knowledge ever suspended by the league, is blackballed.

OK, getting whupped by Indiana and NY is understandable, but then the Sparks? The Sky have a chance to be a special kind of bad this season.

With Plum now on that team, the Sparks aren’t that bad. But in general, the Sky are really bad. And it’s sad because Reese will catch most of the heat for it even though she really isn’t the reason that they’re losing games. This coach seems clueless. They don’t have any semblance of a consistent outside scorer. And Cordosa seems more interested in playing nice than showing a beast mode switch. So frustrating how this team is being run.

Clark out 2 weeks with quad strain. which would mean she wont play Jun 7th vs the Sky at the UC.

Tough break for the Fever. But not exactly the worst thing in the world. We’re probably looking at 3-5 games at the most. Better to let nagging stuff like this rest before it leads to something worse.

Be interesting to see the Fever without her, as she played almost every minute of every game last year.

Re: Chicago Sky/WNBA 2025 season thread
Well, the Sky got its first win of the season last night, as the offense & Cardoso getting into gear. Good news! However, the Sky being the Sky, the victory did not come without drama, as Angel Reese was benched in a close game for most of the 2nd half (although she was inserted back into the lineup late in the game, during crunch time). l
