The Holiday contract might be top 5 worst contracts in the league right now. He's slowly turned into a negative offensive player and his D is slipping. Celtics will have to attach assets to move him.

Holiday has one good season left and is well overpaid and might be done in 100 games. No one wants him.

I don’t expect this is an accurate sentiment at all around the league.

Come on. Who wants an overpaid, way past his prime, soon to be retired player?
Is he worth more than a severely injured Dame? Yes. But, who wants him?
He isn't good for a rebuild. He is not going to help a contender.
He had his run. He might be positive for a mid level team in a transition. But, look at his contract!

Sac and Dallas are on record as wanting him. Boston wants him.
He is the 53rd highest paid player next year and will be in that range for the next 3 years. Likely lower as new contracts are signed .
One could argue that he is still a top 60 player.
Yeah he will be 35-37 for the life of his contract and he probably doesn’t have as good a season as 23/24, but the assertion that he will turn to complete **** is inaccurate. It’s more likely that he has a better season next year than he did this year imo. He will have a longer offseason, no Olympics, be able to heal nagging injuries.
He is overpaid a bit but it’s not as much as fans seem to think.

His value is a negative now. But, I can see him having some value as a bench player or a spot starter on a good team with a young group who needs a year of on court mentorship and more off court mentorship in years 2-3 coming up when he will be about 37/38.

Seeing this take a lot on RealGm, and think it's way way off. I'm not saying Jrue isn't overpaid for his production, he is, and his contract is a year longer than any Celts fan would like. But Jrue had a 'mallet finger' injury 2nd half of the year, and I haven't seen anyone on the site mention it. It's a factor, an annoying injury that one can play through, but can be painful & limit one's feel/effectiveness. People are overprojecting his decline in stats this year, as the beginning of his end. I don't think Jrue will be the one to be traded for financial reasons (prediction: Porzingis/Hauser), as he's a Brad Stevens fave, but if he does, Celts will not have to pay a premium to do so, imho. Time will tell.

Re: Milwaukee - Brooklyn - Boston
I don't think BOS is going to give up their '26 first. Tatum is out for the year and Brown is contemplating knee surgery. Despite the counting stats, Jrue contributes much more to winning than Cam Johnson. After this deal, presumably Hauser would be dumped and Porzingis dealt for lower cost but worse player(s) because this deal doesn't save enough money for BOS to be "it" for their cost cutting moves. That 2026 1st has very high potential. BOS can't use it to dump salary.
I think the Kuzma/PatC for Jrue piece of this could have legs. BOS "dumps" PatC into a TPE/MLE somewhere that needs wing depth (SAC, ATL, etc.). It's not worth it for them to try and flip Kuzma for CamJo if it costs additional value.

He is a starter on a 60 win team.
You see him a bench player on a good young team?
His contract ends at age 37. People act like he will be in a wheel chair drinking soup through a straw.

Fans seem to have a much lesser view of Jrue than players/GMs around the league. Do I think he’s positive value? Probably not on his contract. But he had a hand injury all year that affected his shooting followed by a hamstring injury in the playoffs. I think his 3 point shooting should recover next season, and his defense is still elite. Not to mention, he’s one of the best locker room guys in the league and is a proven winner. His “falloff” statistically won’t look the same when he’s not shooting the 6th most shots on the team.
Do I think he’s negative value? To a lot of teams, sure. To a contender that needs a 3&D guard willing to take whatever role is asked of him, I don’t think so. Everyone thought Al was washed like 4-5 years ago, and he continued to be an invaluable piece for a contender.
All that being said, I don’t think the Celtics are looking for “value” necessarily when trading Jrue. I think they’re looking for pure cap savings. Dallas seems to be a perfect match in this regard. If they can trade their 3rd center (Gafford) and Klay for a guy like Jrue, it makes perfect sense. Even if Dallas or Boston has to attach something small to Klay to go to a third team, turning Jrue into Gafford while cutting $18M off the books is a win-win. It gives us a center to replace KP assuming he’s part of another cost-cutting deal.

The Celtics had their run so they can't complain. I think they will have a tank year and if possible and intelligent trade their 2026 pick to revamp the team around a healthy Tatum, Brown, B Rabbit, and more.

Bucks aren’t taking on Jrue’s contract like it’s an asset, can’t provide picks.

I have yet to see one non-celtics fan say as much
I wouldn't even want to pay the 2023 bucks version of jrue 37mil/yr

I wouldn't pay the 2019 Jrue Holiday $37M a year.

Re: Milwaukee - Brooklyn - Boston
I mean the last two teams who added Jrue won the title immediately with him being a big part. Boston might win anyway, but the Bucks never win if they don't upgrade Bledsoe to him.
This idea that he was never any good is absurd and I'm guessing anyone who arrives there thinks its 1983 and the box score is how to determine value....
