He needs to be in the bullpen for a certain amount of time to start the year. The Yankees need to draw up a plan where after a certain amount of months he gets ready to go to the starting rotation for the stretch run.

Cashman, Hank, and Dave Eiland shot down Olney's report. They didn't definitively say he won't spend time in the pen next season, but he's going into the season in the rotation. Either way, it's pretty clear his innings workload is a top priority.

this is a bad idea i dont want joba to be the next papalbon i want him to be the next johan or randy johnson when he was great. and besides we need pitching help in the rotation not the bullpen cause if u believe moose can pitch against the tigers or angels ur on drugs. this yr i believe in farny to be good in the 8th so lets give him a second chance.

I think Farnsworth will be better this year. How much better is a good question but better. If you look at it people work harder when they are up for a raise or promotion and in Farnsworth's case a new contract. Plus, Girardi seems committed to the idea that he can reach out to Farnsworth like he did when he was a Cub. Joe Torre was pretty bad at handling bullpen situations and Girardi should be better. Those 3 factors lead me to believe that Farnsworth should be better, but the question is how much better. If he can just cut down on the walks by trying to pitch to instead of just trying to blow it past guys he could be very effective and be in the conversation for a setup role. However, if Joba is in the pen all year, it would take Farnsworth getting a lot better and Joba regressing tremendously for Farnsworth to be in the 8th inning conversation.

Personally, I would hope that Hawkins and Farnsworth can hold down the 7th inning and let Joba and Mo manage the 8th and 9th. With Joba closing occasionally if Mo has gone 3 in 4 or something. I'm hoping Igawa can turn into a solid lefty reliever. Based on this year's free agent middle relief market, he wouldn't even be overpaid. -Jitpal

If you want to make Joba a closer to watch his innings, do it later in the year. Although trying to get him back to starter status for the playoffs is a dicey situation....

I can see how moving him to the bullpen limits his innings, but I'd rather see what he can do from the start, limit the innings he starts in. Move Mussina to the pen and give him and Edwar a chance to battle for setup roles.

how is this good, we need an ace wang 19-7 in season, petite 15-9, but theyre not dominant and thats what an ace is and until then we cant win a ws

He's going to be a full-time starter eventually, don't worry about that. But he needs to spend part of the season in the pen so he can stay under the innings cap they want to set for him. Plain and simple.

& he missed like a month of starts with an injury. He easily could have had another 3 wins in him.
