Brian Robb details C's future draft cupbboard

2025
No. 28 (own 1st)
No. 32 (via WAS)
Analysis: The high second-round pick is a byproduct of the Celtics doing some savvy wheeling and dealing during the 2023 NBA Draft night where they moved back four times and picked up a host of future second-round draft capital in the process.

2026
Own first-round pick
Second-round pick (most favorable of Blazers, Knicks, Pelicans, Wolves picks)
Own second-round pick (Grizzlies own swap rights)

2027
Own first-round pick
No second

2028
Spurs have rights to swap their first-round pick with Celtics (top-1 protected)
Own second-round pick if in top 45 (Knicks get if 46-60)

2029
No picks

2030
Own first-round pick
No second (Jaden Springer’s salary dump last year cost Boston their 2030 second-round pick.)

2031
Own first-round pick
Own second-round pick

2032
Own first-round pick (frozen until at least 2028-29 season)
Own second-round pick

Ringer drops expanded big board (top 50) today:
https://nbadraft.theringer.com/

Combine fallout: Cedric Coward up to #15. Drake Powell up to #21. Jase Richardson slides to #24. Asa Newell slides to #31.

Newell and Clayton are would be an amazing draft that’s possible via their board.

I’ve kind of grown re: Newell. Also pretty interested if CMB slides within striking range I figured he’d be long gone by then.

Last year’s me LOVED CMB and Mogbo and the like. I think I might be finally over that archetype. Newell doesn’t seem to have measured great, and I think he’s more a Lively type C than he is a PF, but if he falls to 28, I’d jump on him. If the shot becomes real and he ever develops a handle, then you really have something.

I think Ringer's analysts may be overreacting to Newell's bad measurements to push him down to #31.
Newell measured 6-9 barefoot with a 6-11.25 wingspan and 223lbs ... and people seem to be saying "too small to play center" and now he's sliding.
but it's hard to imagine Newell falling to our pick at #28 ... i'd definitely be all over that as our pick, especially having two picks, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I think he'll be long gone.

edit:
i watched to 0:58 -- 58 Seconds -- to the drive middle, spin-reverse drop step pivot and i said, "okay, im done, sign me up," lol but he's not gonna be there

Ok. Raynaud, broome, kalkbrenner.
Pros and cons, please.

Pros
Kalkbrenner: former teammate of Scheierman.
Broome: plenty of pun opportunities then next time the Celtics sweep a series.
Rayanud: he'll be the best pro out of the three.

I'll let someone else do the cons.

cons:
Broome: measured 6-9.25 barefoot with a 7-0.25 wingspan which is not center sized. Broome shot 28% from 3pt, 59% from FT... he scored with post moves in the paint in college which probably won't transfer. he has lots of paths out of the league, and middle outcomes comps of eduardo najera-type hustle PF

Kalkbrenner: old prospect 23.5 yrs, huge 7-6 wingspan center with slow feet, low volume shooter with good but not great touch for a big (34% 3pta, 68% ft%). has a good floor as a likely NBA player but his likely outcome is just a bench big, a slower Luke Kornet type. And Luke it's taken 5+ yrs before he had an impactful playoff series.

Raynaud: Questionable defensive potential. His DBPM was 0.8 this last season, which is very poor for a big. Filipowski is considered a big who can't defend the rim and Flip's DBPM last season was 4.5 ... questions about his lower body strength, can he play 5 or is he a stretch 4, a poor man's Dirk? Does this player translate offensively in 2025's NBA? Defensively can he guard on the floor & move his feet on the perimeter? There's not much room between being a poor man's dirk and playing in Europe (Nick Fazekas)...

Just my 0.02 analysis.

Yeah that type for me they have to fit the following - have to be able to play small ball center and control the lane with strength, great rebounder positionally not just chase the ball down a lot, also defend the perimeter really well, be able to dribble, score inside the arc and also pass.

So it's still a lot of boxes to tick, big one being the defensive positional versatility and high end D impact, the rebounding, and I suppose dribble, pass and score inside at a high level are all big as well. Basically all of it being undersized for a C and not shooting threes.

It's really the Bam mold of player which imo is still pretty valuable in the right context. CMB and Sorber imo have a shot but it's still a tough role to play.

But 20/11/3/2/2 per-40 at a young age in a good conference on .630TS% with his other advanced % stats being really strong it's a lot of positive signals for me for Murray-Boyles.

They will probably have to hide Raynaud in drop coverage initially but he rebounds. That's part of defense in my book. Also he's a double major in computer science and mathematics, so he can help Mike Zarren in his spare time.

The last great Stanford techie in the NBA was George Yardley, the first NBA player to score 2,000 points in a season.

Wang That Yang!

Up to 33 in the Sports Illustrated Mock. Seems like a Top 40 Pick.

Jase Richardson sinking because he measured out at 6 & .5 inches. Seems like he could be a McCollum like combo guard but even shorter. Strong possibility that WCJ & Richardson could both be available when the Celtics draft? Would you select both of them as Best Players Available, start PP and bring them off the bench as Dual Microwaves? You could eventually trade one of them...

If Asa Newell is actually there at 28, that would be a nice gift for the taking.

I see a bit of Ty Maxey in Richardson, anyone else?

He might be short, but his wingspan & standing reach are real similar to Maxey, would love for him to drop.

I like Newell too, but it's a situation where if he drops so low, I wonder if there is something I don't know. With Richardson, I feel more confident that he is slipping for a potentially illogical reason.

Richardson is slipping for no other reason than his height measurement of 6' and a half inch... definitely has scared people off.

Newell scares me because I feel his ceiling may be high, but does he have enough skill set to justify his high ceiling?
