Alternatively, I floated the idea of a 3-way with KAT going to NOP, Zion and the Bucks' two 1st rounders going back to the Bucks, with Giannis coming to NY. Of course, there would have to be additional pieces involved to even things out, but Zion could even be sent to a 3rd team like Charlotte or Utah with additional picks going to the Bucks.
The problem with keeping Kat is that you'd have 2 non defenders in your starting lineup. Which means against elite opponents you are vulnerable to being hunted. This is why Indy is dangerous despite us having the more talented starting lineup. You can only mitigate this so much with staggering and other lineup changes etc. With Kat he gives us a really high floor but I also suspect that he gives us a high ceiling ...that stops below championship level.. as long as Brunson is still here. If you can get Giannis while keeping our other top 6 I would do it no question.

Gannis, realistic?

Post#424 » by Jonathan2347 » Wed May 28, 2025 3:21 am

How realistic is the Gannis' possibility?
If we lose this series, I think Thibs is gone.

I think our best offer is any 4 of the 5 players, no picks involved.

McBride
OG
Hart
Mikal
Robinson

I think Towns must stay to pair with Gannis. I think they perfer to leave Hart.

Gannis
Towns
Hart
???
Brunson

Thoughts? Is this enough to start with Coach Mike Malone. How to we fill the roster?

Yes. But there is going to be a huge sweepstakes. OKC can win the title then EASILY trade for him. The Spurs will be a threat too. But we are in that top 3 destinations.

After the Luka fiasco, I don't think Bucks will be dumb enough to do any kinda "star swap" or a "trade that keeps up competitive ". And that's pretty much what the Knicks have to offer.

Knicks already used their best assets for Mikal.

Bucks can prob get 5 unprotected picks and a couple of prospects if they actually shop around.

I do think missing out on Giannis will be what puts Rose in the hot seat eventually. Dolan loves watching superstars sign with other teams....

Giannis to the Spurs to team up with Wemby. I don't know what else makes more sense.

Giannis to OKC only makes sense to me if OKC loses in the WCF or Finals

Who cares, he's broken down and 30. We have nothing of value except Brunson to trade. Just trade everything not nailed down for picks or expiring trash. Next year is the last year we control our pick until I die of old age.

If he demands a trade to the Knicks exclusively, yes, absolutely. It’s a stars league and they get what they want. The trade will happen.

1. Replace Thibs with Dan Hurley (or Mike Malone)
2. Extend Mitch Robinson
3. Trade KAT, Hart, and pick(s) for Giannis and Portis
4. Extend Mikal Bridges
5. Sign Chris Paul to one-year Tax MLE
6. Sign Delon Wright to vet min deal
7. Sign Landry Shamet to vet min deal

It would be a 3-way or 4-way trade... Giannis to NY, KAT to NOP, then the Bucks' picks back from NOP to the Bucks along with salary (Zion?)... obviously more pieces involved, but you get the idea.

Imagine Giannis in a Thibs scheme. He's gonna have him just setting screens, defending and grabbing rebounds.

Fire Thibs first and then we can see what we need. IMO just run it back with a competent coach and reassess at the trade deadline.

Need to stay way from this guy, he's injured a lot, missing close to 20 games on average recent seasons. Going into his 30's...I'm not on board with this, they will have to gut team to get him.
