I think I try to move Civale as soon as possible. He is not in the long term plan and rather roll with youth. Priester has a 2.53 era in his last 4 starts and Patrick has a sub 3.00 era so its going to be tough to move those guys to AAA too.

He's the obvious candidate to be moved. But it'll probably take a few starts of him showing he's healthy to get something back for him

Priester entered the year with one Minor League option remaining and logged 11 days at Triple-A with Boston before a trade to Milwaukee sent him to the big leagues. An option isn’t officially burned until a player spends 20 days in the Minor Leagues, so theoretically the Brewers could go into next season with one option remaining on Priester if he doesn’t accumulate nine more days in the Minors this year.

Leader trend: The Brewers always seem to come up with one or two (or more) unsung pitchers who excel. This year, Patrick certainly fits that bill, posting a 3.23 ERA over 11 outings, including 10 starts. A lack of swing-and-miss stuff kept Patrick off the prospect radar, but so far, he's made it work with command and a lot of soft contact. Patrick has already been traded twice in his career, going from Arizona to Oakland at the 2023 deadline for Jace Peterson, then moving from the A's to Milwaukee after that season for Abraham Toro. This is what the Brewers do.

Biggest mover: While Wilson has emerged as a clear early-season front runner for AL Rookie of the Year honors, no one has achieved that status in the NL. Baldwin has been dynamite but hasn't played everyday. Casparius has been effective but not in the kind of role that typically attracts awards support. Chances are, this leaderboard will look a whole lot different a month from now. That stated, expected Baldwin to stay somewhere on it, as he's been a real force at the plate when he's played. Increasingly lately, Baldwin has been usurping playing time behind the plate from veteran Sean Murphy.

Keep an eye on: Henderson has only made four starts, but what a beginning it's been. Henderson won his first three outings and, overall, has allowed four runs over 21 innings with 29 strikeouts and six walks. He's the first-ever Brewers pitcher to win each of his first three career appearances.

That understanding helps explain why Henderson was sent down instead of Quinn Priester, who has one Minor League option remaining but would lose it if he spends nine more days in the Minors this season. Likewise, the Brewers could face a call on right-hander Chad Patrick, a last-minute addition to the Opening Day roster who has earned his keep with a 2.97 ERA in 12 appearances, including 11 starts so far this season.

“I’ve talked to Chad Patrick about that type of stuff,” Murphy said. “Nothing final, but we’re not trying to trick anybody or anything else. We’re caring for players and loving the players and helping them understand, like, ‘This is how we have to do business.’”

Murphy said he told Patrick, “You’ve been an incredible pitcher. Don’t start thinking for us and don’t start thinking for the front office. They know what they’re doing. They’ve been through this before. Woodruff went through this, Corbin Burnes went through this.”

Per the above Adam Mccalvy article I kind of get the vibe they’re prepping Patrick to get sent down.

Good problem to have but hard luck for guys like Patrick, Henderson, and/or Priester.

Agreed. 8-3 stretch has helped them kind of get back in things (only 3.5 back of a Wild Card) and if can survive this stretch may be in decent shape.

Glass half full is the pitching has been superb and we’ve been ravaged with injuries. Health is returning. Hall, Ashby should boost the pen. Quintana, Woodruff likely all back in next week or so. Henderson, Misio, Yoho are still solid minor league options.

And hitting you have all of Contreras, Yelich, Chourio under 100 ops+. Have to think the C’s will get hot at some point. Ortiz, Durbin have been slightly better lately too. Anything from them will be big boost. There is reason to believe the offense will start to get better imo.

The Brew Crew’s shocking surplus
The Rangers might not be the only team with pitching to spare. The Milwaukee Brewers have won four straight to move above .500, and their staff is growing deeper by the day.

The Brewers had so many pitchers injured to open the season, they started journeyman right-hander Elvin Rodríguez in their home opener and predictably suffered an 11-1 defeat.

Less than two months later, the Brewers are in almost the opposite position.

On Monday, they optioned right-hander Logan Henderson, who in his first four major-league starts produced a 35.8 percent strikeout rate, 7.4 percent walk rate and 1.71 ERA. And more difficult decisions lie ahead.

Lefty José Quintana returns from the injured list Sunday. Righty Brandon Woodruff is on a rehabilitation assignment. Righty Jacob Misiorowski, the team’s top prospect, is throwing 100 mph at Triple A.

The current rotation includes veteran righties Freddy Peralta and Aaron Civale, plus two emerging starters, Chad Patrick and Quinn Priester. Last year’s revelation, Tobias Myers, is at Triple A.

Two months from now, the Brewers’ situation obviously might look quite different — the moment a team thinks it has a surplus of pitching is generally the moment it starts to disappear.

Henderson threw only 81 1/3 innings last season, so it’s not as if the Brewers are going to stretch him to 150. The team’s bullpen also has thrown the second-most innings in the majors, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers. The recent returns of lefties Aaron Ashby and DL Hall should help ease that burden. Piggy-backing starters would be another option.

Still, the Brewers never are afraid to trade, even when in contention. Peralta is earning $8 million with an $8 million club option for next season. Civale is earning $8 million in his walk year. The Brewers conceivably could move one or both and replace them with cheaper alternatives. Peralta, with a 2.77 ERA in 11 starts, would be especially attractive.

How much of a step back competitively would the team take without its ace? Depends upon the return. For now, the Brewers are in a fairly good spot. And they can maneuver in any number of ways.

I don't trust Arnold to get much for Freddy when he does decide to trade him.

Always a crapshoot trading for prospects. So many bust out. If we trade Freddy this summer or before next season maybe we can get someone who's had a good year or two success in the majors, and still under control for 4-5 years.
