Cavs / Wolves - Ant for Mitchell+

Post#1 » by JJ_PR » Thu May 29, 2025 3:00 am

Cavs get: Anthony Edwards
Wolves get: Donovan Mitchell and all of our remaining firsts and swaps

Why?
Cavs get a player who fits better and is younger.
Wolves get a player who could potentially be a better fit because of his playmaking.

Donovan is known for his playmaking? That's news to Rudy Gobert.

Ant is about to turn 24, DM is 28 turning 29 in September. The value on this is so far off it isn’t even in the realm of possibility. This is as bad for the Wolves as Luka to LAL was for the Mavs, except Ant doesn’t have conditioning issues and isn’t up for a new contract any time soon. The Wolves have zero incentive to pair DM with Rudy Gobert, nor to give away one of the best players in the league pre prime for a less talented one way player mid prime.

I proposed something like this in 22 before Mitchell was traded to the Cavs, response was that Wolves don't do it, 2 WCF later they have less reasons to do it, yeah, value is off.

Franchises, especially small market ones, spend years trying to get players like Ant. Can't trade him at this point in time

I disagree with the bolded. Mitchell is in the middle of his prime and just made first team all-NBA. The value might be off, but not to the extent you implied.

The best worst part of this is reuniting Mitchell and Gobert… which is never, ever going to happen.

This isn't a video game. Those two legit hate each other.

Not to mention trading Ant would be stupid. He has helped his team make back to back WCF's. I'm building around him long term.

Sorry but AD was at least dominant at his position. Mitchell isn’t top 5 on offense and is bad at defense. The age discrepancy is a fair point but not enough to come close. Ant is a legit top 5 talent and pre prime. To say because he hasn’t won a chip at 23 the Wolves should sell low is preposterous.

And 1st Team All-NBA ISN'T dominant??? LOL! BTW, I'm not advocating for the trade. Ant is 1 of very few players I'd like on the Cavs LESS that Mitchell, both due to attitude and style of play, and we already KNOW Gobert and Mitchell wouldn't get along. But to say AD is "DOMINANT" at his position and Mitchell is NOT, is just not based in reality...

Wolves passed on Luka for Ant.

Why trade for Mitchell?

by "all our remaining firsts" i assume you mean, forever, lol.

it's laughable that MIN would even consider this.

One of the most important characteristics for Ant in Minnesota is that Ant WANTS to be in Minnesota. Even his last five year contract didn’t include the typical player option on the final year, that no franchise denies if their star ask for it.

When the Cavs traded for Donovan Mitchell, they gambled he would want to stay in Cleveland despite a lot of information out there that he wanted to go to New York. The Cavs won that gamble. Let’s keep these two great players where they want to be.
