Thoughts on Quentin Grimes?

Well it's likely we are drafting VJ.

What are we going to do with Mann/VJ/Green/Grimes all competing for minutes at sg?

Not completely sold on Mann yet and Green is meh. Competition is good and this team sorely lacks talent.

i'm in, he would be great at Sg. If who ever we draft does end up as good as Quentin or better, we can worry about it then.

Mann can stick to 6th man and green didn't give us much at all

Going into summer 2021 OKC had Shai, we had LaMelo. Let’s see what we’ve surrounded them with since then …

Thunder 2021-2024:

#2 Chet Holmgren
#8 Josh Giddey (Caruso)
#11 Cason Wallace
#11 Ousmane Dieng
#12 Jalen Williams
#12 Nikola Topic (TBD)
#18 Tre Mann
notable second rounders: Wiggins, Jaylin Williams, Ajay Mitchell

Hornets 2021-2024:
#2 Brandon Miller
#6 Tidjane Salaun
#11 James Bouknight
#15 Mark Williams
#19 Kai Jones
notable second rounders: nobody

What does it tell us?

Its funny to remember OKC has Nikola Topic stashed in their back pocket.

Should have been a top 3 pick too, teams passing on him because he was hurt to take inferior talent for a rookie that didn't even help them.

How different of a season is it for Houston if they take Topic over Reed
How different of a season is it for Charlotte if they Topic over Salaun
How different of a season is it for Utah if they Topic over Cody W.
How different of a season is it Minny takes Topic over Dillingham.

Read this article from Hornets SI. If this is the dilemma the Hornets are facing (and they are not confident to invest in this core) then just deal Melo and Williams as part of this draft strategy to reorganize.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I will be shocked if they trade Melo this summer. He just had multiple surgeries and has a history of injuries. His value has to be near an all time low, I don't understand why it would be a good idea to cash in now.

nothing sounds less interesting than another roster reset, just to get back in to the lottery sweepstakes.

he'd be least likely of the 3 for sure. really only see it happening if
- he asked out - no sign he would
- team gets a really good offer - value would be .75 on dollar
- hornets find way to trade up to 2 and go for harper - miller rebuild
- or if new front office is just fed up with the injuries, or maturity concerns
- or they know we are far away from competing and doesnt make sense to pay 50 mil for a player on a 20-win team and melo is best chance and getting a more high value picks

Unless Peterson is getting a promising player back he shouldn't trade LaMelo. So something like the Rockets offering us Amen Thompson. I highly doubt he'll get that kind of offer though, so I agree with Ben that it's unlikely he's traded this summer.

Miles and Mark on the other hand is a different story.

I think it would be very foolish to trade LaMelo or Mark this offseason.

I’ll sit out watching next season if we decide to tank yet again. **** beyond old.

There is really no need to go that route, but it would not surprise me at this point. I have always been in favor of tanking when the situation calls for it, but this is not the time to reset again.

That article was pretty much a basic take nothingburger. Yeah, they probably don't want to pay Mark a ton of $ cause he -
1. Is often hurt
2. Has lost a step
3. Can't shoot or switch on D

Hopefully they can get something useful for him or he gets back into shape and can do those things.

The Melo stuff just seems like something to get clicks so far. Unless he starts saying he wants out I don't believe it. It seems like he is happy to be making big $ in a low pressure environment while styling and occasionally hooping with his buddy Miles.

While we are still a year or so out of actually being good if we get VJ or Ace (and they are as advertised), a mid quality vet back up PG and a useful bench (or even better a future starter type) PF/C at 33/34 we aren't winning under 30 games if they stay decently healthy. Probably 35-45 wins.

But, it could all fall apart if they aren't healthy i.e. Melo, Mark, Mann and Miller dont play a combined 240 or so games or they completely wiff on the draft....
