If there's anything to learn, it's that you shouldn't label players as low-upside based on superficial comparisons or measurements. Brunson went in the 2nd round and was viewed as an unathletic, low-upside player. Haliburton was an old tweener with mediocre athleticism. People didn't think Siakam would do anything beyond rebounding.
and all those guys were very productive college players
usually the numbers don't lie
I will add those guys were the engines for their respective teams and leaders. That's why comps and measurements only go so far. Guys like Siakam/Brunson/Hali are wired to win and want to get better.
Out of the above list Newell is a five star, led his college team, played on USA basketball, and his motor/drive are no question for him. I just think he got buried in a very compelling freshmen class.
In the playoffs, having that three level scorer is obviously needed. Brunson/Hali can take you to the Conference Finals. I am not sure if I see another sleeper like that in this class other than Jase, and it is a bit of stretch given his size, but people believed in Reed Sheppard last year, too.
