They can make it partially guaranteed. It is quite beneficial to Washington. They increase the odds of him being traded 10-fold.

Middleton wouldn't agree to a partial guarantee when he can do nothing, get paid $33.2M. And then probably sign an MLE deal the following year.

Why? He is getting more money in my scenario while being more likely to be traded to a contender.

But is he? You are proposing a 2/40 ish type of offer right? And want only a partial GTD on the second year. Unless that partial GTD is for more than 14 million (the difference in his 2025 salary and this new deal) then he is not GTD anything more his current 2025 salary. And even on a 2/40 that is only valuing him at 6 million on his second year, and he likely feels like do better. If I was the Wizards I would be very leery of giving him that big of GTD and still hope to trade him later. Rather not risk it unless trade was already lined up.

I think Middleton approach would be to go to the Wizards and offer some 5-8 million to buy him out this offseason and waive they right to offset his next contract. He can likely get a 2 year full MLE offer still. That would be my approach as his agent to get him the most money and to a better team.

I'm proposing a deal where Middleton is getting more guaranteed money.

I addressed this in a different thread a week or two ago.

What are your proposing then? You stated a deal starting at 20m to make him more tradeable. So you would need at least 14 million GTD on the 2nd year. How much are you willing to GTD that 2nd year to get him more money. And why does Washington take that risk for maybe a couple 2nds if they find a trade?

Thanks....I am on here a lot but don't remember every deal a poster made a week ago but if you want to get frustrated when I don't reference some older post then so be it. ..... IMO I would never offer that deal to Midds without a SNT already lined up. Too much risk for too little likely reward for Washington. Just buy him out and be done with it would be my approach if he is willing to give enough back.

I haven't seen Josh Smith for a while, does he still have that athleticism. His shot blocking would probably go well in todays NBA

Meant Josh Green. But I’d take Josh Smith if he was available!
