I think Morey is going to try to come away with Harper, I'm pretty confident in it. He didn't get a 3rd pick to settle on a next tier prospect.

This -- I think Ace should be the pick in my opinion, I know there are varying takes but he has the highest upside long-term and we are building a young team that can contend for a long time. It does seem like Charlotte could be locking in on VJ, if they are are and are not an Ace team I think trying to extract value out of Charlotte to pick who they wanted anyway is exactly what Morey is doing with all the ambiguity and the talk that they like 3 guys at the 3 spot and trade down possibilities. At 3 it really is an Ace or VJ question unless your open to Tre and I think after those it is a big drop-off. Fears doesn't really fit Kon is a role player who isn't atheltic and won't be able to defend at this level, Maluach is a role player project, Queen was so out-of-shape he could barely compete his shooting drills and agility testing was last or close to it in every category and will have problems on D. It would take a huge get to move down lower than 4 and even bigger to go lower than 5 so the move down doesn't make sense unless its with Charlotte and you know they are targeting the one you didn't want between ace and VJ.
If you get 4, 33 and 34 from Charlotte for 3 and get the guy you wanted anyway (for me its Ace) and save a million dollars a year it makes a ton of sense, but most of the other trade downs don't. You'd have picks 33-35 and if I did that I'd probably look to trade 2 of those picks (34-35) to a team that wants cheap role players because of cap constraints and try to either trade up back into 1st round (my target would be rasheer fleming) or a useful piece on the open market.
If Daryl could pull that off and we ended up with Ace at 1m cheaper a year at pick 4, Fleming in a trade up and a backup/3rd string 5 in 2nd round at 33 (Kalkbrenner or Raynoud) that would be a master class. If Charlotte was locked in and knew what we were going to do they might just hold their ground which is why you have to position other trade down opportunities because someone else could trade in and take your guy and its worth giving up 2 2nds for Charlotte to not lose their guy. And if Charlotte really holds firm but you know they are sold on VJ you can just pull a hinkie and replicate what he did with orlando (picking Elfrid Payton without a trade lined up because they know Orl wanted him and they could rake them over the coals) and pick vj anyway and hold them hostage - you just have to be ok with they outcome that they don't budge and you are stuck with vj. This is why competitor intelligence and misinformation are so big this time of the year.

Kon is also difficult to navigate with these. He wasn't on ball quite as much as the other guys. Certainly not the defensive impact as Derrick White, Josh Hart, Delon Wright. Dean Wade was a big man. I think it's worth keeping the TS% at 60, AST% at 15, and the FTr at .30 because those are really outstanding stats for a guy who operated off ball. As soon as I drop those, then you see the Cam Johnsons, Keegan Murrays, Wes Johnsons appear because they were more one dimensional on offense.

I get the tendency to see a name like Stauskas and panic, but the draft just isn’t that straightforward. Sometimes those guys go like Stauskas did. Sometimes they’re Tyler Herro. Sometimes you hit the jackpot and they’re Devin Booker.
If we’re basing our opinions on the archetype, what we’re actually saying is that we don’t have a meaningful take on the player.

Kon is a role player - yes he is a very good shooter and has a good connective game, but that was at an ideal situation at Duke. He simply doesn't have the athleticism or measurements anywhere near the guys you mentioned and will struggle on defense in the NBA. He is an NBA player, but I see more of a Duncan Robinson or Niang at the next level when his athleticism will be an issue.
At Duke he had great defensive players like flagg which helps and they played much less athletic college players. We'll see but he is not the kind of guy you should ever be talking about using a top-5 pick in any draft on, at 9 or 10 for a team that needs role players sure he can fit a role but with our guards and really just the nba in total we need someone with strong 2-way potential

First off, I can't see Morey ever purposely tanking. I think he'll want to compete every year. However, Embiid's status and ultimately the transition from Embiid to the next era is very cloudy right now.
I could see that report about Kon becoming true if an opportunity presents itself to Morey, for example to trade #3 + Expirings (Oubre + Drummond) for #7 (Kon) + Herb.
On paper they have a great lineup without pushing their chips all in. If Embiid is done, you pivot off the old guys and you still have a solid young core and some assets to move forward with.
Embiid / Bona
Jones / T-MLE FA (Yabusele/Boucher/Nance)
George / Knueppel
Grimes / Edwards
Maxey / McCain

I do have a tendency to believe that some shaking will go on. I still don't believe the Spurs will pick Harper, as they already have 2 guards that can't shoot. If I were them, simple, trade the pick for Giannis.
If not, pick Ace since their track record is great with wings. I'm not as sold on Harper as others, but since we have plenty of shooting, he would be fine. Heck, I'm fine with anyone at this point.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft (2)
Current vibe: Time to face the reality of ending up with Kneuppel?
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind trading down and landing him. There’s not much to complain about in his game, especially after accepting that we’re more likely to draft a number two/three option than a true franchise guy with this pick.
I think it was either Morey or Nurse who mentioned they were focused on two players.. if one gets taken, they’d go with the other. what if the context was trading down when the other player drafted is not Harper but VJ instead? It makes me wonder if those two are VJ and Kneuppel. Both are analytics darlings and have been linked to the Sixers by Vecenie as likely targets.
The Hornets seem locked in on VJ. For the Sixers, the ideal move might be to get another team high on either VJ or Bailey to drive up the value of a trade-down scenario. The likely candidates sitting at 7 and 8.. Brooklyn and New Orleans, could be in play.
From the Nets:
Trade down to #8 and be compensated by #19?
Maxey/McCain
Grimes/Kneuppel
Paul George/Edwards
Yabusele/Oubre/Rasheer Flemming
Joel Embiid/Drummond/Bona
From the Pelicans:
Could we get Herbert Jones and #7 for #3 overall?
Maxey/McCain
Grimes/Kneuppel
Paul George/Edwards
Herb Jones/Yabusele
Joel Embiid/Bona
McCain and Kneuppel provides elite 3pt% and elite hustle to win the possession battle.

If we're lucky, Silver can replace Morey with Bryan Colangelo!
This is green font, btw.

Definitely feels like Kneuppel is a Morey target. He likes guys that can put the ball in the basket and Kneuppel was the most efficient guy at doing so. And he wasn't a zero on defense (although who knows if that translates to the NBA).
With the Zion rape allegations, I wonder if the Pelicans are interested in completely smashing the restart button and wants a top 3 pick to hype up. Actually feels like a trade that would make sense.

I think it's interesting that as the season went along, Kon trended up in scoring and Flagg trended down until they were both at 17ppg in April. Not insinuating anything about Cooper, but it's clear they felt a great deal of confidence making Kon the other primary scorer.

I'd bet Dumars is a big Ace Bailey guy.

I just watched Knueppel dunk once in the UNC game and then attempt to dunk over a guy in the same game. It didn't go in, but it's the thought that counts.

No idea why we would do that for Herb Jones. His name even sounds dumb.
I'd just want a better player to move down in the draft.

Sorry sir, you're getting Herb and Nipples as your big acquisitions this summer.
