OTA reports! Oh boy. Doesn't get bigger than this.
Pearsall with a hamstring tweak already. Gah! According to Lombardi, Watkins caught a bunch of passes. Fingers crossed on that one....

OMG. Cohn also reporting that Watkins looked like he could contribute right away. If those guys are agreeing, get him sized up for a gold jacket.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
One legitimately interesting development: Spencer Burford was starting at left tackle with Trent Williams out. Though Dillard was out too.
For this season, I would much rather have Burford competing for left guard. But for the future, it would be awesome if he could develop into a starting tackle.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Have to wait for details on the trade and how his contract looks restructured but might be a win win trade for both teams.
He disappointed with the Eagles but was good under Saleh so he just might be a better fit under what Saleh does.
Still I have wanted the team to add some quality depth to be able to rotate guys and I'd say Huff hopefully fills that roll of being abel to give Mykel and Bosa breaks.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Apparently he's going to rework his contract, which will be an interesting piece of this. Obviously he didn't work out with the Eagles, but he was great with Saleh and the Jets just a year earlier. It would be optimistic to expect him to regain his 2023 form, but not crazy given the scheme change. It seems like Philly may just not have been a fit. The big concern is Huff's run D, but we can afford to play him as a designated pass rusher given that Bosa, Williams, and Gross-Matos are all plus run-defenders. And I'm sure his contract is not going to be one that demands starter snaps.
Here's what PFF said about him upon hitting the FA market last year:
18. EDGE Bryce Huff, New York Jets
Huff set out to prove that his absurd pass-rushing efficiency in 2022 wasn’t an aberration, and he did just that in 2023 with a crazy high pass-rush win rate once again. Still, there’s a reason the team that developed the former undrafted free agent and saw him every day didn't like to deploy him against the run and hasn’t made much of an effort on an extension. This will be a nuanced negotiation for a designated pass rusher type — fortunately, that’s the richest facet to excel in for an edge defender.
Former Baltimore Raven and Chicago Bears pass-rush specialist Pernell McPhee comes to mind as a comparable player, as does Huff’s current teammate Carl Lawson.

Another OTA Warrior that looks great when playing without pads. Deandre Smelter was the next big thing during OTAs

Saleh must have some sway in the formation of the defensive roster. Might explain some of the roster turnover on the defensive side.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
The more I dig into this move, the more I like it. Sure, you're always worried about picking up a guy who didn't work out, and one that the defending champs are jettisoning on the cheap at that, but Huff is one year removed from a great season season - filling the one role we desperately need at DE - in the same system we run.
Baldy had a good, short breakdown I'll post below. Huff excels playing in a four-point stance in the wide-nine. The Eagles paid him to be a starter in a 3-4 where he would be expected to play out of a two-point stance as often as a three- or four-point stance. If he doesn't pan out, it only costs you low-level starter money and maybe a 4th round comp pick. If he does, and he becomes an impact pass-rusher opposite Bosa, it could really move the needle for this team.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Lots of people talking about how Huff only had one good season. That's true by sack numbers, but sacks are a volatile metric. Huff also had an elite season in 2023 based on pressures, which is a more consistent measure of pass-rushing success. You could raise some questions about cutting Floyd just to pay Huff, but I do think Huff is the better pure pass-rusher, which is what we really need.

Excited about this pick up. We will have more comp picks next year and it is great to have a pass rusher on the dline who could excel under Saleh

He's Saleh's guy
we're really giving Saleh the full keys to the defense, which is good.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Anyone seeing this as in part a comment on their impression of Williams’ in camp, or just that his pass rush was always going to need development and this is just a way of having that tool at hand while he develops?

don't think so, by all accounts I've seen Mykel looks good and healthy, I think it has more to do with them probably realizing Jackson is cooked and we need a 4th rusher outside Bosa,Mykel,Yetur
im more worried about why the Eagles would trade him to us, if they think he's any good they'd probably ship him to the AFC?

They wouldn't make a decision like this based on a few practices in shorts.
Huff has history with Saleh, comes at a very reasonable price, and brings a speed rush that the team currently lacks. Plus we desperately need more rotation especially with Bosa who at least IMO plays too many snaps.

In division it matters but in conference it's less of a big deal since you're not always running into other conference teams. Not to mention even if Huff bounces back playing for the 9ers he's still not likely to be a 15+ sack guy and terrorize the league.
Hard to say what other offers they got and I'm sure because of the Saleh connection the 9ers were probably willing to give up more than other teams.

When it comes to Floyd vs Huff I see it boiling down largely Saleh being familiar with Huff and another big factor is age. Huff is 27 and Floyd is going to be 33 basically when the season starts.
There is just more potential for Huff to be on this team long term whereas this likely would've been Floyd's last year with the team.

I don't care for the scheme though I will say Saleh is probably the best at coordinating it I do think Saleh is great when it comes to constructing the roster on the defensive side of the ball.
I mean he didn't fail with the Jets because they failed on the defensive side of the ball but like a lot of DCs that become HCs they never can get the offensive side right.
But he's why I'm bullish on this draft class because while not every pick is likely to pan out I still think he has an eye for talent and the ability to coach it up.
