Only Wizardry can save Denver

Post#1 » by Alatan » Sat May 31, 2025 10:20 am

Denver Nuggets trade:
Michael Porter Junior $38,333,050, $40,806,150
Julian Strawther $2,552,596, $2,674,148, $4,826,838 (team Option), $7,722,940 (Qualifying Offer)
Zeke Nnaji $8,177,778, $7,466,667, $7,466,667 (Player Option)
Dario Saric $5,426,400

Washington Wizzards trade:
Khris Middleton $33,345,679
Marcus Smart $21,586,856

The Nuggets try to retool by adding declining veteran players with playoff experience and hopes they turn the clock back. If it doesnt work out they clear some cap space making it easier to resign Braun and Watson.

Washington rolls the dice on some relatively young players in MPJ, Strawther and Nnaji by taking some dead salary and giving up vets with not much trade value.

Opinions?

Where is Denver with regards to aprons to make this legal?

Either way Washington should be asking for incentive here. They take on a bunch of unwanted future money for no reason whatsoever. And no Strawther doesn't remotely entice them to do this.

Awful for the Wiz. MPJ is a negative contract that MIGHT be useful for a desperate contender... Nnaji & Saric are just awful players and negative contracts. Strawther has shown nothing to worth anything more than a flier.

How many first round picks are the Wizards getting to do this?

The Wizards became a lot more competitive and won quite a few more games after they traded for Middleton and Smart. Wizards should keep them around for that reason alone.

They are pros who have been excellent mentors/leaders for their very young squad.

Their front office has finally woken up and said they are no longer going to be a poo poo platter dumping ground for ordinary players with bad/inflated contracts.
