Draft Night Trades Draft - Discussion

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sat May 31, 2025 1:15 pm

Draft Rules:

1. All NBA seasons from 1989-90 to 2024-25 are eligible, subject to the restrictions outlined below.

2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players in 4 rounds. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations. Any player chosen in a season that is pre-merger will have a multiplier of 0.85 applied against their actual fga, rounded to closest 0.1.

3. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.

4. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected. He needs to play at least 50% of his games for an eligible franchise.

5. In each round, you may pick two players who each played at least 50% of their games in the chosen season for different sides of a major draft-night trade.

Bulls – Thunder (Scottie Pippen ↔ Olden Polynice, 1987)

Hornets – Lakers (Kobe Bryant ↔ Vlade Divac, 1996)

Bucks – Mavericks (Dirk Nowitzki ↔ Robert Traylor, 1998)

Spurs – Pacers (Kawhi Leonard ↔ George Hill, 2011)

Mavericks – Hawks (Luka Dončić ↔ Trae Young + pick, 2018)

Magic – Warriors (Chris Webber ↔ Penny Hardaway + picks, 1993)

Each pair should have at most one player who ever won All NBA First accolade in his career.

Predecessor franchises are also eligible.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBA.

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by polls. AI will be used as a single vote when a matchup is tied and stuck.

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs/rankings

If this one doesn’t make it I’d say it’s probably a sign to take a break.

Yeah I can't remember seeing 3 straight ideas fail to land 8 people before.

Absolutely brutal.

This board in general has been pretty dead- looks like we'll have a period where no game is happening for the first time in a while.

Great, with 8 guys it looks viable to start. I'll wait to see if another drafter joins.

Wonder should we change the timeframe to start a decade later with 8 guys.

Not wild about the time frame not including the primes of the players in these trades.

Yeah that was why I was a little bit hesitant. Might work with the original timeframe as well

Normally I'd favour a smaller time frame for such a loaded pool, but I find that it can lead to a lot of boring/predictable pairs.

If you were to reduce it to 99-00 it would probably need to also eliminate the Bulls/Thunder.

Not saying you should do that, just saying I think they’re a package.

By the way the Pippen trade took place in 1987. If I actually wanted to include the trade time, we can actually expand it, not that it will influence the pool that much, just add old versions of Kareem and more options for Magic, post All Star Moncrief, maybe more attractive versions of Worthy which isn't likely to be picked in a loaded pool like this anyway. But I think keeping the time frame as is is fine because Pippen is associated with the 90s anyway. Generally the pool will be loaded but slightly loaded pool now and then should also be okay. The pairs concept should make it interesting anyway
