Man Hoffman almost choked it away again… he’s worse than blowmano lately

Romano was never even close to as bad as Hoffman has been this month.

very fortunate to get out of that one.
Hoffman is incredibly shaky but we don't really have anyone else to put in that role right now.

15 runs allowed in 10 innings pitched this month after that appearance.

Yariel Rodriguez hasn’t allowed a run in a month and Brendon Little has one of the best pitches in baseball. They’ve got options.

Hoffman better not get any more close opportunities. Not in June at least

Yariel has been good lately but when I watch him pitch he looks wild and lacks control. Idk if he’s just getting lucky.

Nothing lucky about 18-3 K/BB in May in 17 IP with only 6 hits allowed. He appears to have found his role in this league.

Well, they took advantage of a bad team to get the sweep. That is what good team's do, so maybe they're starting to piece things together.
I hate that Roden is rotting on the bench while Straw gets ABs.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Those guys do not have a track record of success and are thriving in their current roles. Seems like a bad idea to risk messing that up and potentially creating another problem instead of having just 1.
Stuff isn't the issue right now for Hoffman as we can see by the K ratio along with the metrics looking fine as well. It seems like he's getting a bit unlucky right now. Hitters are swinging at more pitches outside of the zone while making more contact with those pitches and also making less contact with his pitches inside of the zone compared to his previous 2 seasons. That's a bit of an odd combination that should normalize at some point.

This organization needs to stop doing the "Over The Top" Walkouts for their Closers. It started with Romano for years and now Hoffman. Both these guys are no Mariano Rivera, and do not deserve these ridiculous Walkouts. Hoffman should no longer be closing games, and maybe should be slotted in more low leverage situations for a bit (just as the Phillies did for Romano the past few weeks until he found his stride again).
Have Rodriguez as the Closer going forward. Hoping Sandlin returns soon also to shore up the late innings and be another 8th inning reliever with Garcia now injured. You just cannot keep throwing Hoffman out there as the Automatic Closer with the way he has been getting hit hard and giving up runs the past few weeks.

We were thinking he was very good like he had been since the beginning of 2023 and then a disastrous May 2025 hit.
Unclear what that has to do with Yariel Rodriguez being the best pitcher in their pen right now. While I’m fine continuing to use him as a relief ace in big moments and not strictly as a closer, he’s a pretty obvious option to replace Hoffman.

lol I don't know, maybe something to do with sample sizes and tempering expectations on smaller ones?

So you don’t consider a red hot Yariel Rodriguez an option to replace a pitcher who has allowed 15 runs in his last 10 innings because he hasn’t been good enough for long enough? How many months of Hoffman struggling and Yariel thriving are we supposed to allow exactly?
It felt unimaginable before now but I think we’ve finally found someone who would make an even worse manager than Montoyo.
