Simons was ranked close to dead bottom in shot quality. According to Blazers fans, while he can take some boneheaded shots on occasion, this has far more to do with the fact he shoulders so much of the burden to make something out of nothing, often receiving bail out passes from teammates with 3 seconds on the clock. Likewise, we’ve got Paolo who has a tendency to take low quality shots, typically due to the fact that he’s so heavily guarded by opposing defenses because they can sag off the perimeter.
So you’ve got Simons, who is a proven shooter with very high on and off ball gravity that should be even better with the benefit of better shot quality. You’ve also got Paolo, who would benefit from better shot quality coming with the spacing a true shooting threat from deep would deliver. Benefit would be for the whole LU on the floor, obviously, but the fact Paolo and Simons are ranked so poorly on shot quality while seemingly being each other’s antidote is certainly worth consideration.
Good take...the fact that Paolo CAN make so many tough shots is nice, but not ideal all year...imagine him with more efficient options - that come with a straight-up bomber like Simons on the floor.
I also keep coming back to Simons because he's the best body of the usual suspects - crazy length and athleticism. The only time he's played on a competitive NBA team, he was backing up two all-timer scoring guards...so there really may be a whole extra gear that he hasn't unlocked yet. None of them are good defenders, but I tend to disregard that in hopes that Mose/Suggs/Isaac and co. will have a positive effect. With that in mind, Simons' superior length and athleticism come back into the math.
I also think his worst scenario is SO much higher than the others due to his flawless shooting stroke. The others all flirt with his kind of shooting in some years, but Simons is a rock-solid bet to, at the very least, a knockdown high-volume shooter.
