I understand why ESPN won. Beating Disney in a cash war is impossible but man did the bad guys win. ESPN sucks.

I think modern sports owes a lot to ESPN when they were the new kids on the block, sportscenter changed the game, but the last great thing to come from them was page 2 IMO, its been all downhill since then (so nearly 30 years now).

I give em credit for 30-30 which was great but even that was 15+ years ago. I loved it at the time but in retrospect I think PTI was bad for ESPN's quality.

PTI was a fun, lighthearted show with real journalists in shoot-the-BS mode. It was a good program.

But ESPN learned from PTI's success they could generate ratings via arguments and the shows quickly became super negative shows just ripping on athletes/teams along with transparent WWE heel style promos. And that attitude has spread throughout sports culture.

Yeah it was definitely the start of the downfall, PTI was sports junk food, it was easy to eat but so bad for you. Then you got around the horn, first take and on and on, and pretty soon half the network was just loud mouths screaming at each other (in fairness to Tony/Mike, they weren't so bad).
