Basically, one terrible loss from a Game 7 in the ECF. You have to run this back and give this team a chance to build more continuity. If Thibs refuses to play the bench again, he gets sacked in December/January to not ruin the team.

Knicks have a Finals contender in the East. Doom and gloom makes no sense.

Keep, Change, As expected, Treadmill

Nobody should have had higher expectations for a team with a 6'1" high usage chucker that plays no defense and Thibs as coach. Treadmill because there's really no path to improve. They aren't going to move any of their core. They'll run it back, likely with Thibs, for another year and then blow it up

I had trepidations about the Bridges trade. In a vacuum, trading 5 1sts for a non All-Star is terrible business, but it was believed that his improvements from Brooklyn motivated them to make the trade. They were wrong, he was mediocre there and he was mediocre in NY.

The KAT trade was all motivated by the fact that they had no center after IHart signed with the Thunder. Moving Randle and DiVincenzo was a sacrifice, knowing the ceiling of Randle.

They surpassed my expectations, but there was a lot of unanswered potential if the starting 5 played up to their talent. 0-10 vs. the top 3 in the league was a mood killer in my eyes.

Luckily, the East is garbage next season, so with tweaks to the roster, and putting Karen Thibodeau on the hot seat, they can get back there next season.

Without Bridges they wouldn’t have beaten Boston this year. He’s safe for now, I would expect them to shop OG hard this offseason to bolster their bench.

I would like to see that player play an Eric Snow role while Brunson plays the Iverson role.

Last year Hart and Donte were doing it time to time we missed that for sure.
Siakam is killing us two years in a row now. We have 3 original SFs on starting five but no real PF. We need an upgrade there.

Shopping OG would be legitimately crazy, unless you expect his body to break down or something. He's too valuable IMO. Without him, Cade Cunningham goes off against the Knicks and they may have lost to the Pistons.

The Mikal Bridges trade is one of the dumbest trades in recent memory. Basically indefensible from the moment it happened.

Thibs probably got aroused when he saw his games played/minutes played columns on basketball reference.

With his ankles, he should probably take the money if offered, but I still contend that guy is a future NBA champion. He will make an NBA Finals and make a big impact at some point before his career is over (whether that's for the Knicks or someone else).

Since he’s the only Knick with value ( aside from Brunson of course) that’s why they have to look at the possibility to move him. Can’t make it out of the conference finals with Shamet and Payne as part of your rotation.

Less is definitely more for the Knicks in my opinion. They should probably package Miles and/or Hart and see if they can get a bigger playmaking forward.

Guys like Scottie Barnes or Franz Wagner may be off limits. But a guy like Josh Giddey could be had and they wouldn't have to part with much.

A bigger small forward or guard that can facilitate and move Brunson off the ball would do wonders for them.

Well done to the Pacers

Even though Kat played well, might be time for Giannis/Kat swap? :)

Why on Earth would the Bucks accept Towns for Giannis?

Keep Front Office, Change Head Coach, Better than Expected, Treadmill. I think the good thing about the Knicks the past couple of years is they have a solid basement now in that I expect them now to never be lower than a 5th seed every year. But even when they had Randle and also now I felt that their ceiling was ECF if absolutely every thing went their way and also with a little bit of luck and honestly I thought the way things worked out this year in the playoffs that this was their best shot at making the Finals. Thibs has always been a good basement raiser but really not much of a ceiling raiser so I expect the Knicks to eventually move off of him after next season barring them getting to the Finals which I dont see.

I still go by that it is extremely hard to win a title when you're best player is a small guard let alone just making the Finals and at this point with Brunson I don't know how much better Brunson can get and he's already 28. I've never been a Towns believer and aside from one game in this series nothing has really swayed me to change my mind. I don't think you can win an NBA title with KAT as your 2nd best player and even more so when a small guard is your best player. The issue is how soon will the Knicks realize this or will it be too late to move him when they do. I still think the Knicks should try to recruit(silently and subtle) Giannis to get him interested and if he does become interested make an aggressive move to get him. Don't really know if him and Brunson would fit because Giannis has yet to really fit with any type of guard(including Holiday who he won a title with) because he doesn't know how to play off the ball and both him and Brunson both have the ball in their hands a ton. But if you're the Knicks I still think you should take that risk because he's still a top 2/3 player in the league something the Knicks probably havent had since probably a prime Ewing.

Chuck Everett wrote:Great season. Knicks keep getting closer and closer. Brunson still needs to learn to be more of a facilitator. He can be the go-to guy late, but he would have more juice if more guys are cooking during the playoffs.

I know Chuck gets roasted for his lack of analysis and paying attention, but he pointed out something very obvious that I never really keyed in on.

Basically everyone else stops playing when Brunson is in. The rest of the team becomes completely deferential.

There’s probably some chicken and egg there, and it’s one thing we should reasonably expect that Thibs should improve, else the firing talk will actually become warranted.
