IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
CHI in: Toppin, 2 2nds.
CHI out: '30 CHI 2nd (protected 31-55)
Why? Get a role player that could fit really well with Giddey's style and could prove to be a starter.
Giddey/Ball/Dosunmo
White/Huerter
Buzelis/Bryant (#12)
Toppin/Williams
Vucevic/Collins
IND in: Missi, their '26 1st returned, '30 CHI 2nd (protected 31-55)
IND out: Toppin, Mathurin, 2 2nds.
Why? Clear some money for Turner re-signing without reaching the tax (sign #23 and 3 minimuns) while getting a decent rookie and their pick back (also clear some minutes for their recent picks). Underrated part is getting their pick back which they could package with their other ones and role players to get a star if they want.
Haliburton/McConnell
Nembhard/Sheppard
Nesmith/Furphy
Siakam/Walker
Turner/Missi
NOP in: Mathurin
NOP out: Missi, '26 IND 1st returned.
Why? Get a still very young and intriguing player to add to their young core, this assumes they draft Maluach at #7 (making Missi available).
McCollum/Alvarado/(Murray)
Mathurin/Hawkins
Murphy/Jones
Williamson/Matkovic
Maluach (#7)/Olynyk
CHI out: '30 CHI 2nd (protected 31-55)

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
Don't think Indy would need to pay 2 2nds to move Obi. Maaaaaaybe one?
Agreed with Godaddycurse that Mathurin doesn't have value for both. Hopefully he has more than the return of the 2026 1st...maybe more than Missi, but definitely not both. But also, If Indy is doing all this to re-sign Turner, they really don't need to pay for Missi? This would clear so much they could offer a QO to Isaiah Jackson.
Also, Zach Lowe has reported in the last week that the new part owner of the Pacers (minority owner) would be willing to bankroll reasonable luxury tax. We also had Marc Stein report today that Indy is willing to go into the tax to keep Myles. Again, with the past history of Simon on this matter, I'll believe it when I see it, but Simon has always said he'd pay the tax for a contender, and if this team doesn't meet that requirement, I don't think any team ever would?

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
What about Toppin to the Bulls into our TPE for a 2nd?
Indy saves $ (I've thought of the Port pick for Mathurin or Walker as well)
Bulls get a starting 4 who fits with White/Giddey/Matas

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
I think they just pay the tax, it's a finals team, no owner would want the bad PR of breaking up a young finals team for 1 year of luxury tax.
I know Cuban did it in 2011, but it was different circumnstances, it was a very old team, and he's been paying tax like a drunken sailor for a decade.

Yeah, maybe. It’s realistic for sure.

Really not doing Walker for the Portland pick. Probably not Mathurin either? Just too much chance it turns into seconds.
Indy just hasn’t had a big combo forward like Jarace Walker, despite searching HARD, for YEARS. He was drafted pretty young, and he’s worth waiting on. When Carlisle finally went to him in the ECF, he produced in limited minutes. He’s just the kind Indy would hold onto until they know for sure, as he’s exactly what the team needs most (big true combo forward that can defend and isn’t worthless on offense).

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
yep agree across the board. Mathurin doesn't return both. Pacers may or may not pay tax but if ever there was a time....

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
Like others have said a bit too good for Indy.
Also Indy is really good and pretty young. You just sign Turner with Bird rights, keep your team together and pay a couple bucks on tax. Repeater doesn’t set in for 2 more years and you aren’t messing with the 2nd Apron yet.

I agree. I don't think IND would need to add 2 SRPs to move Obi into space. If the deal is slanted at all in Indiana's favour, it's because of overvaluing Mathurin, not Toppin
I have DET fans who strenuously disagree with me, but I'd be willing to send IND two meh future SRPs to take Toppin into our NTMLE
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Re: IND-NOP-CHI: Re-signing Turner
They can be in the tax for 3 years before they start paying repeater rates in the 4th, but that’s when Siakam’s deal falls off the books anyway.
I think there’s some merit to “dumping” Toppin now because it does feel like something they’ll need to do eventually and wouldn’t say he’s immune to tanking his value. Obviously he could get hurt. I don’t rule out him getting played off the court in a series because he’s kind of a tweener and that can sour teams on him. Right now he’s riding kind of high and I think easily movable into a TPE/MLE so they might want to lock that in now.

I know it's rare to read but
The Bulls do this, they can play Toppin and they are always short on 2nds
