I'm not sure what NY would be wanting to replace him with? Do they need more on-ball production? I'd give Monk and 2nds? Do they just want draft picks and cheaper roster depth?

Kings out: Demar, 27 Spurs 1st or 2-4 seconds
Kings in: Hart, Hardy

Knicks out: Hart
Knicks in: Naji, Martin, spurs 1st or multiple 2nds

Mavs out: Naji, Martin, Hardy
Mavs in: Demar

I like the Monk idea. Feels like Monk is the kind of microwave scorer the team is lacking.

I’m not sure the Naji/Martin deal makes sense unless NY is flipping one of those guys for a better win now piece.

It only makes sense to trade Hart if your bringing in another ball handler or durable big to play next to KAT

I could see something like this...

Knicks follow this up with Naji and Achiuwa in a sign and trade to Washington for Marcus Smart

If they can turn Hart into Marcus Smart and Caleb Martin.. gotta think they do it. They need to lean into 5 out

Unless the Wizards are getting back their conditional first, why would they do that deal trading away Smart? They already have a looking roster crunch and want to give as much developmental time as possible to the young guys. Precious does nothing for them. Ditto Naji. Those guys are just wastes of roster spots. They already have two more incoming rookies with 6 and 18 in this year’s draft. They’ll be tanking hard.

If they are trading away Smart, they’ll want picks back in any deal (including taking back bad salary). The new front office regime has acquired picks in every trade they have done since they took over roughly two years ago.

So that's $6.7 Million remaining to spend without re-signing Achiuwa yet and 3-4 roster spots to fill. There isn't a ton of flexibility here.

I think we mostly run it back honestly.

Spotrac and Bobby Marks each have us 8,044,000 below the 2nd apron with 11 roster spots filled. Cut Tucker and that number jumps to around 11.5mm. Incomplete roster charges aren’t necessary in this conversation as we need to fill 4 roster spots:

Tax MLE: 5,650,000
2nd Rd Pick Exception: 1,272,870
Vet Min: 2,087,519
Vet Min: 2,087,519

This would leave about $400k in space below the 2nd apron. I’m sure they can do some cap gymnastics delaying signings and maybe give out a little less than the full tax MLE to keep a slot open for a mid season buyout guy.

I could also see the Knicks not bringing Hukporti back and trading for another late 2nd rd pick to round out the roster (saves about 680k) and/or trading Pacome for a high 2nd, which should also open up +/- 650k in space and perhaps get a 4 year college guy who is more ready to play. This would open up a 3rd vet minimum slot on the roster in addition to some more breathing room.

Long story short, it’s tight.

Why would the Bulls do this when they need to tank and revamp?

Do the Pelicans make sense for Hart and Towns?

Both for Murphy, Murray and Herb? Picks or McBride on NYKs side to balance it ?

If Pelis are interested in Towns, could be part of a three team trade that gets Milwaukee back control of some of its picks and Giannis to NY. Though might require it going to four teams and something like Bridges to San Antonio for additional assets to send to Milwaukee.

Just keep the team together and let them gel for a year or 2. There's really something to letting a team play for a while and only making small changes and no one does that anymore.
