Salty. Every time they mentioned the Knicks or the Yankees.... For whatever reason...I reminded them that the Celtics are in Cancun and the Yankees are in first place!! Had dinner and drinks at a place called the Yard House before the game. It's a good time at Fenway.

Box seats down the first base line. Company tickets where my brother works. I wander up to the Monster. Watch an inning behind the foul pole. Then I usually head back to the seats. It's a really cool place to watch a game.

Interesting stuff about Fenway. Cool read.

In other news. I'd heard the Rockies were really bad but I'd not checked the standings. They're 9-47. That feels impossible. That's on pace to set all kinds of records in the bad department. The 62 Mets after 56 games were 16-40. 9-47 is unheard of in the modern era.

Now the Suckies, I mean, Rockies are 9-48. Anything less than a sweep would be a disappointing series. 2 homers by Lindor is nice. 2 hits by Soto is encouraging, given his slump. Peterson looks like a legit starter. I think they'll have to extend him. Megill might be a trade chip despite the hot start this year, but I think Peterson is here for a while. Being a lefty doesn't hurt either.

Despite the poor stretch of games not long ago, and being in 2nd place, 35-22 is on pace for a 99 win season. The Mets are still safely in position for the top wildcard spot, which is fine. Playoffs is playoffs. After that it's a crap-shoot where either team can get hot.

In minor league news, the teams have been on a tear lately. Not Syracuse who's been basically playing 500 ball.

But the other 3 teams are kicking ass.

Binghamton is on a 7 game win streak and lefty Zach Thornton has been brilliant. I don't know where he ranks as a prospect and I haven't seen any updated lists beyond BA's top 100 which is behind a paywall. Zach isn't top 100, but he's one of many arms in the Mets system who are rising. The RumblePonies are 31-17 on the year.

https://www.milb.com/binghamton/news/thornton-twirls-two-hit-shutout-in-binghamton-s-rain-shortened-win-against-chesapeake

Brooklyn, perhaps the most exciting team in the Mets system right now - if any met fans are local, Brooklyn might be worth a visit. The Cyclones are 34-15 with 11 straight home wins. Jonathan Santucci has put together a nice stretch. 2nd round pick from 2024 and a 2 million dollar signing, so there's some upside there. Santucci got off to a slow start and his numbers overall aren't good, but his last 3 starts are encouraging. He looks like a pitcher.

Benge is hitting. Reimer is crushing the ball. Baez is getting hot. Lots of interesting players in Brooklyn right now.

St. Lucie is 28-21. Single A is less competitive, so grain of salt on results so far. First round pick from 2023, Colin Houck, who was a huge disapointment last year, is starting to hit. They won a laugher tonight, 16-1. Corey Collins, who I'm curious about. A potential future bat, maybe a DH, but the bat is interesting. He has 22 walks so far in 17 games. That's a lot of walks.

Blackburn is expected to be called up soon. He could either be a 6th starter or pitch a long relief session.

Montas has pitched 4 minor league rehab innings so far in 2 games and I think Manea is going to start pitching soon. They'll have some rotation questions to answer when everyone is back. Holmes, Peterson, Senga, Megill, Canning, Montas and Manaea is 7 starters. Maybe they could do a 6 pitcher rotation, but not 7. My guess is Megill will be the odd man out. Maybe Canning, but too much pitching is a good problem to have.

35-22 isn't bad. Go Mets!!!

Back in first place.

Soto with homers 2 days in a row. Swept the Rockies. That's not bad.

A long flight to Los Angeles today and 4 against the Dodgers tomorrow. That'll be more difficult than at home facing Colorado.

Here's a fun stat. Diaz got the save today and gave up a hit. Prior to this outing, he'd pitched 9.1 innings without a hit. The relief pitcher equivalent of a no hitter.

Some praise for Jett Williams ability to hit the ball in the air in the chat section of the minor league forum. (nobody likes groundball hitters anymore, baseball has changed).

https://www.amazinavenue.com/2025/6/1/24440882/mets-daily-prospect-report-6-01-25-cant-wont-dont-stop-winning-syracuse-binghamton-brooklyn-st-lucie

I don't think we'll see Jett this year, but he's in the mix next year for sure.

The Mets currently have an Acuna problem. He's great in a limited role. Platoon / righty bat and pinch runner/defensive replacement, but you ideally want a young player like him playing every day. Do they keep him up or send him down? Maybe they could give Mauricio a look. He doesn't have Acuna's speed and he's not as good a defender but he's got way more power.

I don't really follow the liberty, but I'll follow the NBA off-season and football isn't all that far away. I was amused by the liberty blowout today. Basically they outscored their opponent 2 to 1. You don't see that a lot in basketball.

Lets talk about arms in the farm... some exciting stuff going down there. I'm really impressed with this many arms in the upper minors. Most of them will not be successful but these are nice things to have.

AAA (Syracuse)
Blade Tidwell (24yo/Right) - since going back down after his horrible debut. 5 games with a 3.04 ERA
Brandon Spoat (24yo/Right) - has had a rough AAA over 2 season with 18 starts. He did have a good start tonight 6 IP 0 ER 5H 4Ks
Nolan McClean (23yo/Righty) - Having a great season. Moved up to AAA and 5G 4GS, he has 2.63 ERA

AA (Binghamton)
Jonah Tong (22yo/Right) - probably the best pitcher in our farm. He has been lights out since last year. 2.02 ERA in 10 GS with a 15.2K per 9
Jack Wenninger (23yo/Right) 2.56 ERA in 10 GS with a 10.3k per 9. Just turned 23 a few months ago
Zach Thornton (23yo/Left) - Probably best pitcher in our farm. his 2nd pro season with a 1.53 ERA between Brooklyn and Binghamton.

A+ (Brooklyn)
RJ Gordon (23 yo/Right) - first pro season! Drafted in 2024, 13th round. 8 GS with 2.93 ERA
Noah Hall (24 yo/Right) - 2.42 ERA, 9 GS
Nate Dohm (22 yo/Right) - first pro season! Drafted in 2024, 3rd round. 11 GS with 3.59 ERA between St. Lucie and Brooklyn.
Jonathan Santucci (22yo/Left) - first pro season Drafted in 2024, 2nd round 9 GS with 4.32 ERA
Matt Allen (24yo/Right) - after a sh.itload of injuries, he's climbing back.
Brendan Giton (23yoRight) - First full pro season! Drafted in 2024, 10th round 10G 7 GS with 3.38 ERA

You can kinda see the mindset the Mets philosphy on drafting arms. Majority will be from the college ranks. I believe they will continue this trend for this year as well.

Tidwell

Could be the new Harvey/Syndergaard/DeGrom/Wheeler/Matz staff we have soon. I still think we need to make a move for an ace(Cease) Senga is nasty, Manaea will be fin, Holmes is nice but we need that 1 guy at the top to drop everyone down 1 slot.

What the hell is wrong with Alvarez man, I thought this guy was going to be omthe new age Pudge but he has no pop.

This team should be in the WS this year

I will say this.. I was kinda iffy on Manaea and Montas' contracts. I didnt want us to bog down on big contracts with players on contract years. I like our philosophy now but you are right, we will need an ace like Cease or even Michael King.

Tong
Sproat

I like Manaea a lot and a Senga/Manaea/Holmes/Peterson/Montas staff could be joke in the playoffs but imagine you make a move for Cease or Alcántara and Montas or Peterson(more likely since we lost minter) move to the pen. I would seriously consider calling Pitt and seeing what Skenes would cost to get, prob 3 of our top 4 young kids.

That's a very high bar, Harvey/Thor/deGrom etc. Sproat hasn't mastered AAA yet. Tidwell is interesting, but I don't think he has that kind of ceiling. Tong could be fun, but he walks a lot of batters and he's further away. McLean is interesting too. BA just put him in their overall top 100.

It'll be interesting to see some of those guys. Scott is back next year too, though he was pretty bad against lefties, but there's some upside with him as well. Depth is a plus.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?
