This would be a soft reboot to re-tool around Brunson. The cap is going to increase by 2026 so we might not need to let go Bridges if he’s able to take a team-friendly deal. But that’s my theory with the KD interest.

I really doubt that LAL will not offer the supermax to Luka and really really doubt Luka would not take the offer from LAL.

He's on the decline and another year added to those legs isn't going to help. Find someone like Al Horford, but not actually this version of Al Horford.

A Yahoo sports article on the postgame thread proposed a Giannis trade a KD trade and a third one - Mikal for Gafford and Caleb Martin. Gafford could be the mobile younger Horford type who could play with KAT or Mitch.

Gafford is a monster around the paint and would be an upgrade over Robinson, and far more reliable from an injury standpoint. While Robinson provides a lob threat for Knicks guards, he’s not the same caliber of a vertical spacer as Gafford, who averaged 20.6 points per 36 minutes last season compared to Robinson’s 10.8 figure.

listen there is certainly a world where KD can help you in a playoff run more than KAT next year. I will readily admit that but there is so much risk in that move its not even funny.

KAT has 3 more years of control and is 29 years old

KD has 1 more year of control and is 36 years old

KD really hasn't had a healthy track record for the last 7 or so years.

KAT metrically was much more valuable than KD last year.

I certainly see a pathway where Brunson/KD fit better on both ends...but your window shrinks to 1 maybe 2 years at best. Also you would be giving PHX a get out of jail free card. They would be getting an all-star in his prime under contract that is on the same timeline with Booker so all the picks they gave up they don't have to worry about them in the future because KD doesn't have much of a future.

PHX would certainly have to kick something significant to us do that swap. To mitigate the long term risk of that move.

Murray gives them another ball handler who can defend on the perimeter. Herb and Murphy are self explanatory.

Would probably need a big with the MLE or move McBride or Bridges for another big.

I dont want to give up Jhart but in the end if that’s what it takes too get that type of deal done I’d do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brunson/?
Bridges/?
Murphy/herb
Og/herb
Mitch/huk

That’s easily the best Defense in the league and the clear best team in the east imo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya you forgot McBride and Murray. Deep ass team. Sign Brook. Move up using cash or fuyure 2nds to early R2 and take Ryan Kalkbrenner. Dude can shoot, defend.

Brunson / Murray / Kolek
Bridges / McBride / Murray / Shamet
Murphy / Herb / Dadiet / McCullar
OG / Herb / Kalkbrenner
Mitch / Brook / Kalkbrenner / Hukporti

KAT and Booker were college roommates and best buds. The reason Phoenix would want KAT is to pair him with Booker.

Minny coveting Durant makes it seem like there's a 3 team trade for sure. But what would we get? Randle and Divo back lol? I actually would not be opposed as hilarious as that would be. I think it gets back the chemistry we lost from the trade. We'd be back to needing a center again but at least Mitch is healthy now.

Randle doesn't want NY.

Knicks arent trading KAT who was like 10th in MVP voting for Peanuts. He is a great player but just it turns out not a great fit with Brunson .

Phx isnt getting KAT without us getting a big piece. Goebert and/or Divo can not be the biggest fish of that deal.

That trade inthe tweet above is crazy. Knicks want no part of Zion. Way too much risk, character issues, weight issues, and severe health issues.

I’d switch out Zion for Trey Murphy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kat for herb jones & Trey Murphy would be my dream scenario Tbh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a 4 team version of this that works if Randle opts out of his contract with the Wolves and would allow the Wolves to not hold onto Reid’s bird rights and still have 18 mil in cap space or the NTPMLE and keep Reid bird rights, after trading for KD.

Knicks Trade: KAT
Knicks get: Trey Murphy, DDV, Yves Missi

Suns trade: KD
Suns get: KAT

Pelicans trade: Trey Murphy, Yves Miss
Pelicans get: Rudy Gobert, Ryan Dunn, draft pick compensation

Wolves trade: DDV, Gobert, (Randle does not use player option and becomes UFA)
Wolves get: KD

Knicks roster:
Brunson/DDV
Murphy/Mcbride
Bridges/Hart
OG/(NTPMLE FA)
Mitch/Missi

The Knicks get Murphy, DDV, and use of the NTPMLE
Pelicans get Gobert and Dunn for defense, and move Murphy who is injury prone, they get draft picks too (though the Knicks might get some too since they need assets)
Suns get KAT to put next to Booker

Interesting that KAT (53.1mill) for KD (54.7mill.) doesn't even work straight up.

In contrast to what some are saying I do believe the Knicks have a shot at Giannis but they would have to likely be willing to give up OG in the deal as well. Like they send out KAT/OG to Milwaukee or KAT to some third team (Brooklyn?) and get back Giannis and another good role player.

I don't know how difficult it would be to make it work capwise but something along these lines:

KAT to Brooklyn
OG + Claxton + 4 NY unprotected picks to Milwaukee from Brooklyn
Giannis + Portis (or Kuzma) to NY

Brooklyn would essentially be giving up Claxton + 4 picks for KAT (who could stay in NY and is from Brooklyn)
Knicks would get Giannis + a solid/good role player for KAT/OG
Milwaukee would get two young, stud defenders + 4 unprotected picks

The question obviously would be whether Giannis would be worth giving up both OG and KAT.....I personally don't think Milwaukee would consider it if it was Bridges instead of OG but OG could actually make the offer competitive. Personally I am a big OG fan and don't want to give him up but for Giannis one has to ponder it.

I think OG is too much to give up and I dont think we would be able to transfer out 90+M in contracts without taking back close to that.

Bridges makes more sense and Bridges + 4picks more or less essentially got Phx a younger KD I believe

I would do this. But we would still need another starting guard that can handle and defend.

Bane is that guy. He can play 1 to 3 and can ball handle. He has even played the 1 with Morant out of the lineup. As for another, the cheap route would be Wright who I want as depth regardless, the ideal route is to figure out a way to get to get Divo back.....

It doesnt have to be a 3 way but this would be a dream scenario (posted in T&T thread):

*salaries in parenthesis and trade accounts for salary matching

3 way trade with Memphis, Minny, and New York:

Knicks outgoing:
KAT (53.1)
Bridges (24.9)
McBride (4.3)
PJ Tuck (3.5)
Kolek (2.2)
Dadiet (2.8)
3 2nd round picks

Memphis outgoing:
JJJ (23.4)
Bane (36.7)
Clarke (12.5)
Konchar (6.1)

Minny outgoing:
Donte DiVencenzo (11.9)
Jaylen Clark (2.1)

‐------‐------------------------

Knicks incoming:
JJJ (23.4)
Bane (36.7)
Donte DiVencenzo (11.9)

Memphis incoming:
KAT (53.1)
Bridges (24.9)
Jaylen Clark (2.1)
2 NY 2nd round pick

Minny incoming:
McBride (4.3)
PJ Tuck (3.5)
Kolek (2.2)

Bobby Marks says basically "Don't hold your breathe." Little can be done in the salary constraints.

Plus Thibs won't play bench or create an offense.

Marks says 1st and 2nd round picks should be priority to find if they will be rotational pieces. However we know Thibs won't play Kolek or the frenchman. And keeping Hukporti costs like $2M. Is he worth it?

We're looking at our team being the same and other teams improving. So I guess 2nd round is our goal.

Which makes it a season of looking for Brunson and KAT 40 point games as the high points to cheer.

And a cascade of dumb mistakes and slow plodding offense and defense ending it again once Playoff basketball takes over.

Kinda like we thought this season would be. So maybe we'll be surprised, but don't count on it.:dontknow:

KD might be the most realistic option.

KAT is worth more than that.

The Knicks could get draft picks back too. The suns got some of their own back and the Pelicans have Indy’s 2026. I sent the picks to the Pelicans but honestly some if not all could be sent to NY.

The deal could also be worked for Herb Jones to be sent to NY by sending one of our rookies out, but I don’t see the Pelicans moving both Murphy and Jones. Jones and Gobert combined would give them a good defense and then Murray, CJ, and Zion can focus on offense.

I could see a 3 or 4 team trade going down with NYK being in there and with KAT going out. These days, it seems you need 3-4 teams to make deals work with all the cap maneuvering. And then we're seeing this new trend of teams wanting their 1st rounders back (see Brooklyn) in trades so they could properly tank/rebuild. So if Giannis goes out, expect NOP to be involved somehow and those picks going back to MIL. Maybe KAT ends up in New Orleans... This is gonna be a wild offseason!

I am hesitant on Bobby marks because he focuses on the mathematical aspect of trades. His assessment fits better if we don’t do a trade. If we do his assessment is no longer valid due to the changes in cap space.

If Giannis requests to be sent here, I think Milwaukee will do right by him.

So what does the framework of a deal for Giannis look like to where both sides walk away happy?

Two things:

-I think we need a ball handling guard next to Brunson that can defend.

-Mitch and Mikal are expiring contracts which probably look attractive to Milwaukee.

I wonder if NY, MIL, PHX, and MIN can construct a 4 team deal to get what everyone wants?

Kat for herb jones and Trey Murphy is a way better trade for us than a Giannis or Kd trade would be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The days of teams being lead by multiple stars is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need 1star and multiple other 3&d ball handlers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s the way to go moving forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the issue I would have with that trade is who is your #2 option behind brunson?

I think Murphy can definitely blossom into that role for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude is a future all star for sure imo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also think Mikal is going to have a massive bounce back season once he fixes his Jumper in the offseason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
