In his 6 game sample size pre injury he had one game against a legit team (Iowa, finished 13th in the big 10) and went 3/10 with 2 assists and 2 turnovers for 9 pts. Very small sample size, but he had a 2.8 bpm in a full season in the big sky as a sophmore where he carried the 4th highest usage on his team and only got 2.5 stocks per 40 playing against legit awful teams. He also had a negative assist to turnover ratio on a team that shot 36.4% from 3 on decent volume. 10.9% Assist vs 16.3% tov against that competition is legit terrible.
He can shoot really well and is really athletic, but there isn't any evidence he can actually play basketball.
Good post. It would have been good to see him play in the scrimmages, people want to compare him to Jalen Williams but what put a stamp on JWills rise was his play during the scrimmages, he proved he was better than most prospects in those games. I like Coward but I have to agree we haven't seen him perform versus top competition. You would have want to see him dominate lower competition but even that didn't happen. The only thing I can say is that he's a late bloomer and he's been rising every year from Dlll to Duke wanting to have him and now to the NBA. Taking all this into account picking him at 9 would be a huge risk.
