Except Barry wasn’t injured. He just played for a crap franchise that couldn’t field an offensive line or any kind of decent defense at all and got tired of all the carrying and losing. That era of Lions teams wasted a top 3 RB of all time and then a top 3 WR of all time. The whole thing scarred me so badly I’ve had a hard time coming back, even with the recent success.

I specifically said the surgery will give hope that he'll return to top 10...

I'm hopeful, it's more fun when there's superstars playing...with Tatum out, and Giannis potentially leaving the East (favorite non-bucks teams to get him are all out West), it leaves a void of superstars in the East...

Without saying too much, the surgery will only push him to retire sooner, not bring him back to a top 10 player.

Yeah, cubbies, almost everyone on realgm is 100% assuming he's toast. Even if that could use some perspective/correction, right now it's gonna be pretty hard to argue against. Barely played at all this year and looked bad when he did.

Knee and joint issues don't get better as people age nor as more mileage accumulates. It gets worse.

Who will be the new Embiid is my next question.

Nevermind seems SGA is that guy. Jokic fans gotta find someone to hate. SGA winning MVP makes him the next target.

Only in the minds of some people in the media. I'd say he's done as a real top 30 player. His whole career could basically very well be over at this point except for him playing 20-40 games then being done for the year. Maybe he proves me wrong but I think that's where we're at with Joel now.

Do you see Embiid returning to being a top 10 player next year?

why the question is about top 10 and not top 5?

Joel Embiid at 30mpg seems to not work at 30 years old.

How many minutes per game should he average?

25/26 $55m
26/27 $60m
27/28 $64m
28/29 $70m player option

And he's not limping around today.

count me among the people that are amazed that we've gotten ~10 years of largely great basketball out of him in the first place. he had pretty scary back and knee issues as a teenager, and the wear and tear of pro ball at his size is no joke. healthier players on draft night have had much shorter and less productive careers.

i know people don't like him, it is what it is, but i feel pretty lucky that i've been able to watch him play as much as I have. I definitely didnt expect him to make it past his rookie deal intact, and would have put the odds really low that he'd have the health to develop into the player we've been able to watch.

so, no, i dont think he'll be a top 10 player again, but i also didnt think he'd be healthy enough to be a top 10 guy in the first place let alone an MVP caliber guy. so what do I know. haha.

I don’t blame Barry at all. He had nothing left to prove and nothing to win. The Lions wouldn’t let him go… so he just hung ‘em up. Good for him.

Yeah ironically he was talking about himself as a Jokic hater finding someone else to build up since the Jokic-Embiid debate ended so emphatically and embarrassingly for him and others on this board

Jokic is the best player in basketball. My hate is for his fans. They are so insecure.

Literally praising someone because they had better stats vs OKC even though his team lost is crazy. Jokic wins even when he loses in their mind.

Unfortunately I'm afraid this is the case, given his history and age his knee is going to get worse. I think his days of being the #1 guy on a playoff team is over. He will have to adjust his game, play a lesser role in terms of scoring the ball and dominating possessions. He needs to worry about this long term health tbh.

No, his prime is done. Almost feel like Kawhi levels already. You are just hoping he survives the regular season, maybe play ~half the games there and hope harder his knees are good for 16 wins in the postseason— so yeah a tall task and he’ll never recover and end up as another career loser.
