I can't conceive of them firing Thibs if they had beaten Indiana but lost to Oklahoma City. The Thunder are playing at an ATG level. If he got fired for losing that series, management really had unfair expectations.

My assumption was they thought, NY had more talent than Indiana, the EC was as open as you could hope and this was a make or break series.

I'm shocked honestly.

I wish Tom all the best. Let's keep in mind the human aspect here.

I guess Leon was seeing everything that we saw all season. It is what it is.

CP on KnicksfanTV has been saying it will def not be Malone...he was the one that broke Mitch into the starting lineup he is tight with Begley and I think he has some inside info...maybe not on player moves but seems connected to coaching stuff.

Say what you want about Tom, and I'm was one leaning that he should get fired, you can't really say he lost the locker room. I think the players, Brunson in particular, liked him a lot.

The thing I fear now is that this was a James Dolan decision. And we all know, when he's the one calling shots, **** goes sour.

This could be our Doug Collins to PJax moment. Or i can be our JVG to Don Chaney

Or Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr moment.

And also, I don't think this was a Dolan decision. This definitely feels like a Leon Rose one.

Time is a flat circle.

The Bulls fired him to get our Kerr and hired Hoiberg - they've won 3 playoff games in a decade. He elevated the roster in a way only he can and when you took him away from it - things fell apart.

I'm sorry but this isn't a good move.

Nah, Knicks make the finals, then Thibs stays. He got fired because it was a missed opportunity. We have to be honest. Knicks got through Boston. And then there was the Game 1.

As one of Thibs biggest supporters, I do not feel thibs should have been fired, I do not think they lost to Indy due to coaching, but the flaws of this roster. I will keep saying that KAT and brunson pairing is why they didn’t advance along with lack of athleticism will always be a problem. I do not think a new coach will fix those issues. However, with that said, I’m a knicks fan first and trust Leon to do the right thing, so whomever they hire I will trust it.

That's the takeaway if we win a title next year or get worse. Thibs left the knicks in a way better spot than he found them. And for that I'm grateful.

If you listen to enough podcasts, there was definitely a lot of "He remembered he had a bench" going on, and you heard it on broadcasts too.

I think the nail in his coffin was how the bench didn't play all season, then he just hurls them into the game when we're down 2-0, and it actually helped.

Probably. But the real nail in the coffin was Game 1. I think he'd still be coaching on Thursday.

Yeah, losing game 1 is a fireable offense, to just watch it happen like that.

Also, another thing is that since we're over the apron developing bench players and getting them playing time has to be a priority moving forward. He was never going to do that, not really anyway.

i would think they know who they're hiring before doing this. they would want to make sure they have someone in tow that they're confident about.

Per Begly - the Knicks still owe Thibs $30 million on his new extension.

Again - he earned it.
