this is my only problem with this. thibs made some mistakes but this wasn't one of them. gotta change the roster if you're really serious about winning it all.

He won't, but he also won't let them only run 13-18 PnRs per game between them. Our offense is gross and doesn't play to it's strengths at all. There was a point in the playoffs where Brunson/KAT were running less PnR per game than Portis and Porter Jr.

Everyone expected a deadly two man game between them, we got none of that.

there's this other end of the court that it seems very few people care about. that's where we lost this series. look at the pacers score in the games we won.

Here's the problem, our defense was better against them in the playoffs this season, last season with half the team hurt we had a better ORTG by almost +4.

So, somehow our offense got worse with more offensive weapons?

while true...the amount of miscommunication and lack of consistency for the entire roster is on the coaching too.

Like sure you aren't just magically making Brunson and KAT defend.

But at the end of game 1 how many miscommunications did OG have? Mikal has lost guys on switches....

The team looked lost sometimes and not just because of KAT.

And thats just on defense...the fact we never saw Brunson/KAT look there best together is pretty damning on Thibs on the offensive side.

There is no way anyone can spin away the issues that we saw with our own eyes for nearly 100 games.

The team was dysfunctional. It was obvious.

What did Tom do to help fix the problem?

Why did he wait til we were down 0-2 to start using the bench?

Tom made more than 'some' mistakes in my opinion. This team had issues all year long.

We have a roster construction issue - one that familiarity over a full playoff run and training camp might have resolved. Since we’re replacing the coach, there’s now pressure to fix the roster while continuity is no longer a consideration.

No team has a perfect roster. It is a choice to not try anything at all season until you start a series 0-2. The fact that McBride got 50 minutes the whole season with starters while Hart got 1250 shows the lack of any in game coaching and simply going through motions with Thibs. Even perfect rosters need an in game coach. Thibs refuse to do that. See how quickly Carlisle were taking timeouts after a Knicks run vs how long Thibs waits until we dug ourselves a really big hole before deciding to intervene

And also, I don't think this was a Dolan decision. This definitely feels like a Leon Rose one.

Time is a flat circle.

The Bulls fired him to get our Kerr and hired Hoiberg - they've won 3 playoff games in a decade. He elevated the roster in a way only he can and when you took him away from it - things fell apart.

I'm sorry but this isn't a good move.

It absolutely is.

I have lived this already - the Bulls have been trash outside of his tenure from 1999 on just like the Knicks have been since 2003.

So knicks hire Johnny Bryant with zero wins and was an assistant coach on the team that lost to Indy in 5 rather than 6..hmmm

Like I said before, it can both be true that he's a good coach, did a good job, but it was time to move on. It was clear his voice lost its effectiveness in the lockerroom when we had such inconsistent effort and had to try to find veteran players to help motivate. Better to be ahead of this than be forced to react in the middle of next season.

I am optimistic this is the reason for the rush.

I agree.

I think Bryant was always thought of as an eventual replacement for Thibs. The front office was likely blindsided when he left for Cleveland. They're probably thinking this is a good time to bring in a younger mind with a fresh approach to a game that has evolved (something Thibs and his older coaching staff seemed reluctant to do).
