Surprised, I think their defense was the reason they lost.
Brunson and KAT aside, they looked helpless at times. Indy got whatever they wanted. I felt like they could have made adjustments to their principles or hired an effective defensive coordinator

Was just about to say this.
Could make for some awkwardness in the locker room have the coach manage his own son.
I think it was weird when Doc was coaching Austin in LA.

Weird, but maybe a good move considering Thibs will run his players to the ground.

This i always the move when your team loses and you don't make a big roster change...First to go is always the coach...If they lose after running it back against next year thats when players get shipped...

I don't know what they were expecting. They didn't have a roster that was a shoe-in for the Finals or anything.
With a new coach that won't play starters so many minutes, there will be new problems pop up unless they shore up their bench.

Re: Shams: Thibs FIRED (lol)
The Knicks are cooked. They traded half a decade of FRPs for a role player. They're stuck with this roster for the foreseeable future, so the first scapegoat was always going to be the coach. Malone or Bud or whoever they hire won't make a difference.

It’s ironic. I bet if they just lost to Boston like everyone expected, he would not have been fired.
Game, blouses.

OG just extended his career by at least 2 years because of this.

Re: Shams: Thibs FIRED (lol)
I think Thibs got the most out of the roster, and they've had their best run in decades, so on one hand - probably didn't deserve to get fired.
On the other hand, the Knicks don't really have any avenues to improve what are clear roster issues going into next year. So the easiest thing to change is the coach. I think Bridges wasn't happy with playing the # of minutes he was getting (I can't imagine the majority of the roster were), so having invested so much in Bridges and KAT, they had to go in another direction coach-wise.

Gotta think they will hire a win-now coach with HC experience. Not sure who that would be if not Mike Malone. Taylor Jenkins? Steve Nash? Terry Stotts? Bring back D'Antoni

Thibs definitely doesn't know how to use KAT in an offence, but man, KAT is damn near worthless on defence, and I don't know if any coach can fix that lol.

Props TZ!

The Knicks had their best playoff run since 1999 and were the 3rd seed.
Brunson, KAT, Bridges, OG, Hart etc. are all under 30 years old and have only played together for 1 year basically.
Firing the coach usually happens when a team is a contender but flame out in the playoffs for multiple years in a row or have a big upset earlier in the playoffs.
This is a bit more unexpected since the Knicks hadn't made it past the 2nd round in 26 years and have only been in the 2nd three times in 26 years.

Re: Shams: Thibs FIRED (lol)
The only thing you can say in defence of this is that it was likely to happen next year, unless the Knicks had a magical run. So makes sense to do it now.
But I think people will realize how good a coach he was over the course of next season. Keeping a team that consistent and disciplined over multiple years in the New York environment is not easy.
