It’s not a pay cut, though. His agent can still use his name, image and likeness, plus additional national endorsements, a shoe deal, and all that stuff. He’s gonna make way more than 28 mil this/next year.

Flagg, Wemby, Luka and Zion – how would you rank them as prospects coming into the league?
I think I'd go Wemby (solidly ahead), then Luka, Flagg and finally Zion. Zion, to me, was just a bit more risky even though his ceiling was up there with anyone and his year at Duke was next level. I'm very uncertain about Luka versus Flagg, though.

I would see it as pretty much the same, although I think Wemby vs Luka is an interesting discussion. Luka was a better player than Wemby at 19 but I do think Wemby still had a higher ceiling which bolsters his case.

I can see that point – and Luka was certainly more accomplished – but by the end of the season prior to the draft I'm not even sure if Luka was a better player than Victor. Before the season I would have completely agreed but Victor took a huge step forward and showed incredible impact at which point he went from ‘insanely talented’ to ‘insanely talented but also really good already’.

Luka was ranked much higher than Flagg as a prospect by those who knew what they were talking about. Unfortunately Robert Sarver and Vlade Divac were not among them. That was one of the few drafts in recent memory when you basically knew on draft night that the guy going 3rd was better than the top 2 picks. Completely foreseeable at the time that it was an obvious mistake.

I see people are still pretending Luka didn't force his way to Dallas just like he forced his way to LA. Weird how ATL and DAL had a trade worked out weeks before the draft because they knew he'd fall to ATL.

Luka didn't force his way to Dallas. That's insanely revisionist. The Suns and Kings had ridiculous decision makers who bizarrely passed on him, while being clowned in real time for doing so.

Why shouldn't he make that much money?

Re: Cooper Flagg - Duke
Coop didn't make $28 mln in one year.
He got signed to longer term endorsement deals. Brands threw money at him to lock up good value for the first few years. If Cooper signs the deal now as #1 pick or after his 20/8, them prices are gonna triple at minimum.
