For me all 3 are bad solutions. All have as much negatives as they have positives. When healthy, CJ at least is a much better playmaker than Simons & Sexton.
I want a PG or a Combo guard with high level playmakin and not one of those SG's in a PG body who can only make basic reads and doesnt improve our system (Simons is a at least a offball weapon). I'm gonna heavily disappointed anyway with any of those guys. I would go all in on Reaves or Garland. Reaves can do everything those 2 can do COMBINED on offense and more. Skillwise. He got the driving game of Sexton & the high volume 3's of Simons, but unlike them he gets to the line on a high rate and is a better playmaker.

For me all those one dimensional Combo guards gonna be a flop anyway. CJ at least got the biggest chance to succeed, because he got more skills we lack than those one dimensional guys. For him its ''only'' the age and health concerns, for the others its skill concerns

Since AB and Suggs are redundant, I think the Magic should trade AB for a solid combo guard that can playmake and shoot 3's.
A player like Cole but better? I would think if you wanted to upgrade Cole, then I would just trade Cole.

Gotta give up value to get back value. Cole has lower value than AB. Can get a real good player packaging AB with a pick. Cole isn't going to net much on the market. Heck, package both or do 2 trades.

To me, the problem with trading Isaac is that he showed two years ago that he can provide more than $15 million worth of value, significantly so in fact, even in a limited role.

If he’s in shape and playing mostly backup 4 with a little backup 5 mixed in, even if his body will physically only allow him to play 15-20 minutes a game, if you get the 23-24 version of Isaac that’s one of the most impactful low minute players in the league.

I would keep him because we saw how positively he impacted the team two years ago. I just think last year got off the rails because of the weight gain and the misguided attempt to be a center.

He has 1 acceptable season. It’s not a problem for me to move on if we address our biggest need at starting guard and or center at some point.

JI who is one of my favorite players on the Magic was terrible last season. At the end of the day Paolo is our PF. He will be playing 35mpg+. Our back up needs to be able to stay healthy and make shots for 10-15mpg. He has done that 1 time in 8? years. He shot 25% from 3 last year. Defense was ok but not nearly what he has shown in years past. I think we are at the point where Taurean Prince is an upgrade... If JI got us a starting PG I think I can live with it.

I can only imagine what AB, Slim and a Pick can net.

As bad as Isaac was this past year, he was equally as good two years ago.

Now making just $15M, I’d see if him losing the weight and playing full time in the proper position can get him back to that form.

And if he can’t, he’s no less valuable in a trade at the deadline than he is right now.

If JI is needed to get a deal done, I see no reason to wait.

Asking someone to wait for JI to show his value is pretty ridiculous given his track record.

That's not really what I'm saying.

I'm saying I anticipate him playing next season more like he did in 23-24 and not 24-25.

And to me, that's more than worth the $15M he's owed.

Just my opinion, but there's no one the Magic could sign in a month for the full MLE nor is there a realistic trade candidate making just $15M that will give them more than Isaac gave them in 23-24.

For the record...

Isaac's 2026-27 salary is only $8M guaranteed and his 27-28 and 28-29 salaries are fully unguaranteed.

Didn't know that. Ok, can release if he doesn't play well next year.

It would require taking some creative liberties with his playing time. Isaac's salaries guarantee in full if he plays 52 games in the previous season.

So if he's playing like garbage, they'd have to put him on ice to keep him from hitting his thresholds, but that wouldn't be a huge problem IMO.

Predicting what JI will do or be in the future is ridiculous.

I just don't think, given the uncertainties with his injuries and play, that any teams value Isaac for his potential on-court contributions.

He's just a mid-tier salary matching contract IMO.

So because of that, I'd rather keep him around for at least a couple of months and see if he can make a 23-24 impact defensively again, and if he can... great! He's way worth his contract if he can play to that level.

And if he can't play to that level, he'll still be the same mid-tier salary matching contract in December and January that he is right now in the summer.

My point is he is easy to move if needed.

Yeah I get it

My point is that unlike Cole or Gary or Goga or KCP, guys who pretty much are what they are and aren’t really worth the contract they’re being paid, we’ve seen a version of Isaac within the last two seasons that is actually worth a lot more than he’s set to make.

I’d rather see if that’s in there than dump him into a trade to match salary. There’s other ways they can match salary.

JI was terrible on offense this season but statistically he was still a good to great defensive player. All he needs to do is lose the extra weight, take less 3's, and stay healthy to be well worth his $15 mil annual contract.

15 minutes off the bench is still movable if required to land a starting guard. JI isn’t safe and really shouldn’t be.

Take less 3’s…. You serious? Dude needs to live in the gym this summer shooting corner 3s all day long.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.
