My thing with the assistant candidates like Bryant, Quinn, Cassell is that we really don’t know what their philosophy or vision for this team is.

They have no track record to look at. So we really don’t know much… they’re gunna have to be vetted by Leon n Co to make sure we get the right one.

Phil was an assistant when Bulls replaced Doug with him, or Ime/ Mazzula with Celtics

Kerr wasn't even an assistant when Dubs hired him

I’m not opposed to it at all, I’m just saying that we as fans don’t know anything about them. The way we’d know who is right for the job is thru a thorough vetting process, which we obviously aren’t involved in.

And for every Steve Kerr, there’s a million Derrick Fishers…

this is my only problem with this. thibs made some mistakes but this wasn't one of them. gotta change the roster if you're really serious about winning it all.

Yes he is... you can play both of them and still not be forced to defend their 1/5

Brunson at SG
KAT at PF

they had kat on pascal and he got obliterated.

and in the modern nba it's not easy to hide guys because the other team will just screen there way into the matchups they want.

Our problem was the offense... we never started the games in leads...

2013 Knicks were elite in scoring in the first half than they would play defense in the 4th

Having Mikal Fields and Josh Shumpert is tough to play Mitch at 5

They need to adress this... if we get Giannis we still cant play Mitch and we shall find a stretch big, unless its KD or Kawhi... or Booker and Brown at 2

Anunoby and Brunson should be there... all the rest are tradable

We're NY and we're a top 5-6 team in the NBA... it's arguably the most coveted NBA job right now... throw the bag at Kerr or Spo and see if they'd be willing to move.

No shade to your post, but we have no idea what Johnnie Bryant relies on. He's never been a HC

He's never run anything ever.

Yes he has, skip to 7:20 in this video and he explains his concept of spacing

Now watch this entire podcast and you can see what his concepts are on trapping the pick and roll, and defensive schemes

A lot of sets that we ran in 2nd and 1st quarters last season were plays that Thibs allowed Bryant to cook

There are only a few that deserves to coach a conference final team. NONE in college without nba playoff experience and only a few in the pros that have a proven x and o mentality and a pedigree of respect bc they have produced a very small list indeed

has that been different anywhere else these players were or are now ?

Randle and RJ seemed like they cared in year 1 for Thibs so i'm not exactly sure why he couldn't hold them to that same standard throughout the years since that is supposed to be his specialty. They were given more help on the offensive end with the addition of Brunson. What was the reason for the drop off in defensive effort?

I haven't paid as much attention to Randle and RJ's defense since they left but I have seen Finch reduce Randle's minutes and his shot attempts and he did bench him a few times that I watched down the stretch when he is not contributing positively whereas Thibs would give him 36 minutes and touches no matter what and he was definitely going to close the game with him.

He also gave Brunson the keys to the franchise while not holding him accountable on the defensive end. Yes, Brunson is small but there are other small guards that are far better defensively than he is.

The best players set the tone for the team. I don't think it was a great environment to create where you clearly hold some players to much different standards than others. I feel like that may be one of the many reasons he has been voted the coach players least want to play for.

Dollars to donuts that this wasn't a Dolan decision. It was definitely Leon Rose's decision.

Agreed. Like it or loathe it this really looks like Leon Rose already having identified that Thibs needed to go. My thread probably tipped him off in mid-season. My post that Thibs needed to go even if the Knicks won the championship, early in the playoffs, was probably the final piece of information he needed.

Take that victory lap!!!!

It’s pathetic he is still working ant what is the equivalent of an demotion situation even though he can retire and he is dating someone who could be his grandkid who apparently is manipulating him to build up her profile.

That is not at all what I want for Thibs.

Which brings us back to the bench too, because Shamet only played 53 minutes, yet he's tied for 4th with Bridges in made threes against them. He was 7-13 from three, maybe that could have helped us with the shooting.

Anyway, he's gone and he's not coming back to coach so I don't even need to argue this much now, the front office agreed with me 8-)

i actually don't care. i just think the roster was a much bigger problem. we'll see if they do anything about that. running it back will produce a similar result to me.

I doubt that they're going to run it back, someone between KAT, Mikal or Josh is gone. They've already shown they're willing to make a big change, it's championship or bust, and Tom is not a championship coach. If they feel the roster isn't a championship roster they'll make changes.

I'll try not to keep spamming this, but I really think JJJ is coming here. Is the price KAT in a bigger trade, or Mikal? Don't know. It feels like they want improved height, defense and scoring over Hart, it's just how do they get there? JJJ next to KAT or JJJ next to Mitch? ( I think they want him next to KAT)

Heard in the winter that sources close to the situation believed Thibodeau wouldn’t return without an ECF appearance. A high bar, but one he met. That may have changed when the front office suggested a lineup change during the Celtics series. They, gently, suggested Robinson.

Sources say discussions of a change were met with resistance. The change coming once the team was down 0-2 in ECF also came with reports that Hart caused the change. But sources say the organization was looking for Thibodeau to break his streak of never having changed a starting lineup during the playoffs unless he was losing a series. And the change wasn’t made until he was.

End of season player meetings included discussions of the coaching staff, which Ian Begley first reported. Begs also first on James Dolan being present at those meetings. Knicks didn’t take making a potential change lightly. Have heard enough around the industry that former AHC Johnnie Bryant will be under consideration for the opening.
